Abstract
1,092,819. Rolling. KAISER ALUMINUM & CHEMICAL CORPORATION. Jan. 5, 1966 [Jan. 14, 1965], No. 530/66. Heading B3M. In a rolling mill 12, the work rolls 16, Figs. 1, 2, 3 and 4, are cleaned by cleaning devices 10, the plates being rolled, passing through rolls 16 between a deflector 56 on to a conveyer 20. Each cleaning device 10 comprises a rotating brush whose spindle 71 is journalled at each end in the bore 66 of a block 26 each of which is slidably supported in a guide member 22. Spindle 71 is slidable in bores 66 to move the brush in a direction parallel to the work roll axis by fluid pressure pistons 96 carried in bores 81 in blocks 26, the ends of the pistons being adapted to engage members 22. Blocks 26 are moved along recesses in members 22 by fluid actuators 76 to thus move the brush toward or away from the work rolls 16. The brushes may be rotated on their spindles 71 by an electric motor whose rotor constitutes an integral part of the housing 102 on which the brush is mounted, while the stator constitutes an integral part of the shaft. The hydraulic fluid for actuating pistons 96 and actuators 76 is controlled by a valve 116, Fig. 3.
