Abstract
226,256. Dreyfus, H. July 19, 1923. Crimped fabrics; figured fabrics; yarns specially treated, fabrics with; materials, special, fabrics containing.-To produce crape-like effects on fabrics by means of highly-twisted yarns of cellulose acetate or other esters or ethers of cellulose such as ethyl, methyl or benzyl cellulose, these yarns before being highly twisted are provided with a protective coating serving to resist permanent elongation of the yarn &c. under the high twist while preserving the elasticity thereof. This coating is subsequently wholly or partly removed from the yarns &c., either before or after the weaving, and the fabric is finally subjected to a craping treatment. The coating agent may comprise boiled-off liquor, or preparations containing gum, gelatine or starch, or sizes or sizing preparations furnishing a plastic dressing of starch, glucose and oil, or mixtures thereof, and the coating may be removed by means of boiling water, soap solution, diastofor or otherwise. The treatment with boiling water may serve as the wetting treatment of the craping operation. The fabric may be treated with a swelling agent for the cellulose acetate &c, comprising acetic acid or a thiocyanate, the fabric being afterwards dried preferably under tension. The weft and warp may consist wholly or partly of yarns of cellulose acetate &c. The warp may also consist of yarns of other materials. The highly-twisted weft yarns of cellulose acetate &c. may be employed throughout the fabric or in parts only, and to produce a flat fabric yarns of opposite twists may be used. The yarns of cellulose acetate &c. may comprise continuous filaments or may be spun from short lengths or chappe fibres. Also two or more ends of cellulose acetate &c. may be spun together and may comprise different cellulose derivatives, or respective yarns of different cellulose derivatives may be used.
