Stationary - mould machines ; feeding; delivery; extrusion machines.-Rubber or composite rubber paving blocks are formed of three layers, of which the intermediate layer is of harder rubber than the upper and lowest layers, the layers being moulded together in a mould press or by extrusion dies. In the first arrangement, Fig. 11, the material for the three layers is fed from hoppers a, each having upper and lower slides b, e and mixer d. Conveyers f transfer the material to a mould g supported on a plunger @ of a press, the said plunger being lifted to compress the material against the abutment k. Cores &c. are provided to form the interlocking means on the sides. After pressing, the plunger l is lowered until it contacts with a stop m, a slider n then engaging with the surface o to transfer the mould and block to a conveyer p, which leads to a vulcanizing-chamber. In another form, two superposed dies are arranged so that the layers are extruded in such manner as to produce ledges or recesses at the ends, the lower die being adapted to form both the intermediate and lowest layers. The blocks may also be formed by a multiple forcer, from which they pass in three-layer form to a knife and to pressing rolls. Specification 201,450, [Class 87 (i), Bricks &c.], is referred to.
