Complex gold compounds of thiobenzimidazoles are prepared by the interaction of gold salts and thiobenzimidazoles; when the carboxylic acids of the latter are employed the products may be obtained as water-soluble alkali salts; they are capable of destroying infectious germs. In an example acetic ester solutions of thiobenzimidazole-carboxylic acid and potassium auribromide are mixed, the solution of the gold compound evaporated, and the product converted into its sodium salt. Thiobenzimidazole-carboxylic acids are prepared by boiling o-phenylenediamine carboxylic acids with caustic potash and potassium xanthate in alcoholic solution and precipitating with a mineral acid.
