Abstract

225,610. Windle, E. C. Sept. 1, 1923. Luggage holders. - A container for suit cases and like articles of luggage adapted for attachment to the luggage grid of a vehicle comprises a lower portion having a rigid base fitted with adjustable straps, hooks or the like for engaging the grid and an upper portion adapted to bear against the upper surface of the luggage, the capacity of the container being variable by making it collapsable or partially collapsable either by allowing the upper portion to telescope over the lower portion or by constructing the sides of bellows-like formation. In the construction shown in Figs. 2, 3 and 4, the collapsable sides 4 are connected to the rigid base 2, and the upper portion or cover 7 is provided with depending flanges 9 on three sides only so that, after the insertion of the luggage, the cover may be slid into position over the same. To the underside of the base are attached straps 11 which, after being passed round the bars 12 of the grid, are engaged with straps 13 on the cover for the purpose of drawing the latter down on to the luggage. Additional straps 18 may be provided inside the container for securing the luggage to the base. The upper edges of the collapsable sides may be provided with guide-bars 22 along which slide bolts 23, which are adapted to engage the top of the luggage and retain the container at the proper height whilst the cover is being attached. In a modification, Fig. 7, the lower portion is formed with two sides 41, a back, and a hinged front 42, while the upper portion, which slides over the lower portion, has a roof, two sides 44, a back and a hinged front flap 45.
