Peebing. - In vegetable-peelers and other machines embodying a selt - contained motor 23 and a belt-drive 22, 14, the belt tension is adjusted by the use of one or more telescopic columns 16, 17, 20, 21, the parts of which may be relatively adjusted by rotating a nut 36 engaging a screwed rod 35 secured to the motor platform 24. The nut bears on the cross bar 28 of a clamping-member formed in two parts 26, 27 which are split vertically and clamped upon the column by bolts 34 or may be secured permanently to the lower column parts. When only a single telescopic column is employed, two screwed adjusting-rods are provided. The motor and driving-pulley may be supported by spring action either within the telescopic columns or externally thereof, clamping-means being provided or dispensed with.
