Abstract
A garment such as a dress 1 has a pair of support briefs 5 mounted therein, the briefs e.g. having a slimming effect. The briefs 5 have their top or waist edge 13 securely sewn to the garment 1 about the waist region thereof, and are substantially without any other connection to the garment 1. The garment may be a skirt or a pair of trousers (Figs. 3 to 7) instead of a dress. <IMAGE>
Description
An outer garment with a support part
The invention relates to an outer garment, for instance a lady's outer garment, such as a dress, skirt or trousers, with a support part attached on the inside of the garment, in the waist region.
According to their disposition in the garment and by virtue of the nature of the material used, such support parts can exercise a desirable slimming effect. As a material for the support part, suitable or the customary support materials may be considered, for example a mixed woven material, which impart the necessary mechanical strength and desired elasticity properties to the support part.
The invention is based on the problem of providing an outer garment of the type mentioned at the outset and which as such generally has a slimming effect and assumes a secure fitment in the garment.
According to the invention, this problem is resolved in that the support part consists of a pair of support briefs, the top edge of which is securely sewn to the garment and which are otherwise supported on the inside of the garment substantially without any other connection.
With this embodiment, the support briefs which are as a whole produced from a suitable support material can perform their shaping or slimming action without hindrance from the outer garment and in addition by virtue of being constructed as briefs, the support part has an excellent and secure fitting in the garment and affords a high level of wearing comfort.
The development according to the invention can be implemented in all the usual outer garments, particularly ladies' outer garments such as dresses, skirts or trousers. If the garment consists for instance of a dress consisting of a top part and an attached skirt, then the support briefs can expediently have their top edge sewn to the top part jointly with the skirt, in which case the connecting seam represents the only connection between the support briefs and the garment. On the other hand, if the garment consists of a skirt for example or a pair of trousers with a sliding clasp fastener, then the support briefs can easily be attached to the waistband of the skirt or trousers jointly with which they can be secured to the garment along the connecting seams of the sliding clasp fastener.By actuate of the sliding clasp fastener, both the outer garment and the support briefs can be jointly and simultaneously opened and closed.
Thus, putting the garment on or taking it off are not complicated by the incorporated support briefs.
Further features and advantages of the invention will emerge from the Claims and from the following description, which is given by way of example only, and which is to be read in conjunction with the drawings wherein a plurality of embodiments of the invention are diagrammatically illustrated. In the drawings::
Fig. 1 shows a front and rear view of a dress as a lady's
outer garment with an incorporated pair of support
briefs,
Fig. 2 is a front and rear view of the support briefs
used in the case of the dress shown in Fig. 1,
Fig. 3 is a front and rear view of a skirt as a lady's
outer garment with an incorporated pair of support
briefs,
Fig. 4 is a front and rear view of the support briefs
used in the case of the skirt shown in Fig. 3,
Fig. 5 is a front view of a pair of trousers which serve
as an outer garment and which have an incorporated
pair of support briefs,
Fig. 6 is a front view of the support briefs used in the
case of the trousers shown in Fig. 5 and
Fig. 7 is a view of one half of the support briefs in
accordance with the material cut to a pattern and
forming the briefs shown in Fig. 6.
The dress generally designated 1 and representing a lady's outer garment in Fig. 1 consists of a top part 2 and a skirt 3 attached to the top part 2 along an encircling connecting seam 4.
A pair of support briefs generally designated 5 and complete in themselves and consisting of a suitable support material having the desired elasticity and strength properties are in the region of their top edge 13 stitched to the inside of the top part 2 by the connecting seam 4 and jointly with the skirt 3. The connecting seam 4 forms thereby the sole connection between the support briefs 5 and the dress 1 so that the support briefs 5 can fully perform their shaping and slimming function in the area below the waist without being hampered by the material of the dress 1.
In the crutch between the front part 6 and the back part 7, the support briefs 5 which are constructed in the fashion of a slip, are provided with a gusset 8. In the examples shown, the gusset 8 is of two-ply construction, the outer layer of material being the same support material as the body of the support briefs 5 which is composed of the front part 6 and the back part 7, while the inner layer of the gusset 8 consists of a cotton material for improved wearing comfort.
In the case of the example of embodiment shown in
Figs. 3 and 4, the lady's outer garment is a skirt generally designated 9 which, starting from the top waistband 10, is opened and closed in per se known manner by an incorporated sliding clasp fastener 11 which starts from the back 12 of the skirt waistband 10.
In this case, the support briefs 5' are stitched to the inside of the skirt waistband 10 around their top edge 13. Furthermore, the support briefs 5' are stitched along the connecting seams of the sliding clasp fastener 11 and jointly with this latter to the skirt 9. To this end, the body of the support briefs has in the region which is to be turned towards the sliding clasp fastener 11, this being the back part 7 in the case of the example illustrated, has starting from the top edge 13 a cut-out 14 of the length of the sliding clasp fastener 11 to accommodate this latter, the two parts of which have their sewing tabs on both sides of the cut-out 14 - and of a corresponding cut-out in the top material of the skirt 9 stitched by joint seams to the top material of the skirt 9 and the support briefs 5' so that the sliding clasp fastener 11 is positioned between the top material of the skirt 9 and the adjacent back part 7 of the support briefs 5'.
In the case of the example of embodiment shown in
Figs. 5 to 7, the outer garment is a pair of trousers 15 with a front sliding clasp fastener. This latter is in per se known manner stitched to linings provided in the trouser cut-out, so that in the closed condition of the sliding clasp fastener shown in Fig. 5 the fastener is covered by an outer layer 16 of the top material of the trousers 15. According to the pattern of the trousers 15 in their upper portion adjacent the waistband 17, so the support briefs 5 are provided with a lining 18 in each of the two halves 19 of the support briefs 5" to serve for attachment of the sliding clasp fastener. The linings of the trousers 15 and the linings 18 of the support briefs 5 are in each case trimmed together along the edges.
Then, the sliding clasp fastener is fixed by joint connecting seams in the region of the linings 18 of the support briefs 5" and of the trousers 15 to the trousers 15, the sliding clasp fastener being stitched behind the linings of the top material of the trousers and the support briefs 5".
In the case of this example of embodiment, the support briefs 5" are constructed as briefs with a leg, the leg length projecting a short way beyond the crutch 20. The support briefs 5" are in this case cut to correspond to the corresponding portion of the trousers 15 adjacent the waistband 17 and are composed of the two halves 19 with the linings 18 at the front.
Fig. 7 shows in dash-dotted lines at 21 the side line which, when the two halves 19 are stitched together along the middle seam 22, is formed on the finished briefs 5".
As with the above-described examples, the support briefs 5" are along their top edge 13 stitched to the inside of the trouser waistband 17 and with the exception of the attachment to the sliding clasp fastener, they are otherwise freely supported on the inside of the trousers 15 as illustrated by the broken-away parts in the top material of all garments 1, 9 and 15 in Figs. 1, 3 and 5.
For the rest, identical or concordant parts are all identified in the drawings by the same reference numerals.
