Abstract

A heavy-duty hinge designed primarily for doors/windows has three leaves pivoted about respective hinge pins in opposite senses. The load-bearing can be increased by extending the length of the hinge to suit requirements up-to the fully continuous hinge length. In the closed position the hinge and the hinge guide and restrictor stay are totally invisible from either side of door or window. The friction can be adjustable through the lengths of the twin pivots as well as via the guide and restrictor stay. The restrictor stay holds door or window in the fully open position. <IMAGE>

Description

WORKING TITLE AND BASIC DESCRIPTION: THE PITCH AND PVIOT HEAVY DUTY HINGE FOR SHORT "PITCH AND PIVOT TWIN PIN".
1. A totally new concept in design, function and weight carrying capacity.
2. This unique method of providing seperation offers a system totally invisible from either side when door or window is in the closed position.
To the best of my knowledge and belief, no other butt-type hinge system has ever attained this considerable ability and distinct advantage.
3. Inherent in the desiqn is an excellent method of automatic self-locking obtained by fully closing the door or window. Release is only possible via the opening edge of door or window which contains whatever locks may have been fitted.
4. The hinge provides for a full 900 opening and the flange of the vent or door will not clash with the support frame throughout the opening cycle even at worse case tolerances.
5. With stabilizer and or guidance and restrictor stay in position, the sash, or door, will open consistantly in a clean and even fashion, and little or no sag in anticipated.
6. Expected weight-carrying capacity is in the region of 100 kgs.
7. Estimated maximum window sizes are 1500 mm wide x 2500 mm high.

Claims (5)

1, The unique 'unfolding' of two of the hinges three leaves, created by the directionally opposite arcs of the pivot-pins, combine to provide an opening movement ideal for doors/window etc. where overlapping flanges are essential for security as well as weather conditions.
2. As claimed in claim 1., the length of the hinge can be extended to the full length of the door or window, allowing even more load to be carried.
3. As claimed in claims 1 and 2, in the fully closed position the hinge effectively locks itself as one pivot folds inwards over the other pivot and becomes immovable.
4. As claimed in claims 1, 2 and 3, the hinge and guide and restrictor stay all disappear completely behind the overlapping flanges when door/window is fully closed.
5. As claimed in claims 1, 2, 3 and 4, friction or stiffness can be adjusted through the lengths of the pivot-pins as well as via the guide and restrictor stay.
