Cutting tubular fabrics to form flat fabrics.- Jointless diagonal insulating-tape is made by drawing a length of insulating material in the form of a tube over a rotatable mandrel, and cutting it in a direction inclined to the axis of rotation, the cut material being withdrawn while the mandrel is rotating, whereby a continuous band is obtained having the warp and weft threads inclined to the longitudinal direction of the tape. In the apparatus shown in Fig. 1, the tubular material b is withdrawn from a roller c mounted in a frame d rotatable about an axis d' co-axial with a cylindrical mandrel a. The mandrel has an annular cutting-edge f co-operating with a disc g, driven rollers h being provided for winding the tape and drawing the material b over the mandrel. Feeding-devices may be provided for conveying the tape to the rollers h. In a modification, the mandrel is in the form of a flat plate having cutting-edges arranged on each side adapted to co-operate with a cutting knife which is depressed to cut the tubular material after each half revolution of the mandrel.
