Rail joints, bridge; chair keys and wedges. -The rail ends are supported upon a metallic bearing fixed to a platform comprising a joint block A rigidly connected to additional supporting blocks, one on each side, by means of tongue plates L or their equivalent, and compressed by tie-bolts C be.- tween the supporting blocks, which may be transverse sleepers. In the case of flat-bottomed rails the ends D, as shown, are supported on a plate H fastened to the joint block A by screws I and spikes J, the screws being provided with collars K to overlap and press against the rail flange. Reversible rails are fastened by wedges in a joint chair secured to the joint block. If folding wedges are used, they are prevented from displacement by pins passing through holes in the wedges and in the key jaw of the chair.
