Abstract

A textile machine assembly comprises a roller, a cleaning or carding element associated with the roller, and a support member for mounting the cleaning or carding element in position, wherein the support member which includes a part shaped for mounting the cleaning or carding element in position, is formed by shaping of a hollow cylinder or tube.

Description

Improvements in or relating to a textile machine such as a carding machine or a cleaning machine The invention relates to improvements in or relating to a textile machine such as a carding machine, cleaning machine or the like for cotton fibres in which a roller is associated with a support member on which cleaning and/or carding elements, for example separator blades for trash, fixed carding elements, are arranged and which covers a portion of the roller circumference.
In a known arrangement, the cleaning and carding elements are installed in fixed position on the common support. The common support can be adjusted as a complete unit in a radial direction relative to a sawtooth roller. A disadvantage here is that, as a result of the fixed arrangement, when the distance of the separator blade from the circumference of the roller is altered, the distance of the fixed carding element is also altered, and vice versa. Furthermore, the common alteration of the distance from the roller circumference is possible only within narrow limits, since the radii of curvature of the roller and of the support member at a relatively large spacing would be so different from one another that optimum cleaning and disentangling of the fibre material could not be achieved.
In view of the above, it is an object of the invention to provide an arrangement of the type described which avoids or mitigates the disadvantages mentioned.
According to the invention there is provided an arrangement on a carding machine, cleaning machine or the like for cotton fibres, in which a roller is associated with a support member on which there are arranged cleaning and/or carding elements, for example separator blades for trash1 fixed carding elements, and which covers a portion of the circumference of the roller, characterised in that the support member has fastening devices in or on which the cleaning and/or carding elements are secured so as to be adjustable independently of one another.
The fact that the cleaning and/or carding elements, for example separator blades, fixed carding elements and the like, on the common support member can be adjusted at least partly independently of one another, allows individual and differentiated positioning of them with regard to the roller. It is particularly advantageous from the point of view of mounting that the common support member is installed as a complete unit. In this manner the structural advantage of having a common support member is combined with the technological advantage of having individual, optimum adjustment of the members relative to the roller.
The fastening devices are advantageously recesses.
The recess may have the shape of a hollow cylinder.
Advantageously, the recess is in the form. of a T-shaped groove. Preferably the cleaning and/or carding elements are adjustable relative to the roller. Advantageously, the cleaning and/or carding elements are adjustable relative to other cleaning and/or carding elements.
Preferably, a guide member is mounted in a recess at the rear end of the support member seen in the direction of rotation of the roller, the distance of which guide member from the downstream separator blade is adjustable.
Advantageously, the guide member is mounted by means of a pivot joint, the distance b of the guide member to the roller circumference being adjustable. Preferably, the pivot joint is arranged below the support member and is set back relative to the end of the support member. A separator blade may be mounted or fixed in the recess.
A clothed fixed carding element may be mounted in the recess. Advantageously, a suction chamber associated with the separator blade is secured in the recess.
Preferably, the support member is formed by non-cutting shaping of a hollow cylinder or tube, the recesses for the attachment of the cleaning, carding, suction and/or guide elements being profiled in the hollow cylinder or the tube. Advantageously, the support member consists of an extruded profile. Preferably the tube is drawn into the profile shape predetermined by the support member.
Advantageously, the distance of the support member from the roller is adJustable. Preferably the support member is associated with a slow-speed feed roller. In accordance with a further preferred embodiment, at least to support members are arranged on a common support and the support can be displaced in parallel and coaxially with the circumference of the roller.
The present invention also provides a textile machine assembly including a roller and a plurality of cleaning and/or carding elements associated with the roller the elements being fastened to a common support member covering a portion of the roller by fastening arrangements, the fastening arrangements being such that the elements are adjustable independently of one another.
The present invention still further provides a textile machine assembly including a roller a cleaning or carding element associated with the roller and a support member for mounting the cleaning or carding element in position, wherein the part of the support member shaped for mounting the cleaning or carding element in position is formed by shaping of a hollow cylinder or tube, for example during extrusion.
The present invention still further provides a textile machine assembly including a roller and a plurality of cleaning and/or carding elements associated with the roller and fastened to different ones of at least two support members, wherein the support members are arranged in a common support unit for displacement about the axis of the roller.
Certain embodiments of the invention will now be described with reference to the diagrammatic accompanying drawings, of which: Fig. 1 is a diagrammatic side view of part of a saw-tooth cleaner/opener including two support members for carding and cleaning elements Fig. 2 shows, another part of the cleaner of Fig. 1 downstream of the part shown in Fig. 1, showing a further support member, Fig. 3 shows one form for one of the support members of Figs. 1 and 2, Fig. 4 shows a support member and illustrates a method of attachment of a suction chamber to a projection on the support member, Fig. 5 shows a part of a support member and illustrates a form of pivot joint connec tion of a guide member to the support member, Fig. 6 shows a part of a support member and illustrates another form of displaceable connection of a guide member to the support member, Fig. 7 shows part of a saw-toothed cleaner/opener including a support member below a feed roller, Fig. 8 shows part of a carding machine includIng two support members below the licker-in, and Fig. 9 shows a carding machine including five support members below the cylinder of the carding machine.
Corresponding parts are designated by the same reference numerals in the various drawings.
Fig. 1 shows a cleaner, for example of the kind sold by Trutzschler GmbH & Co. KG as a cleaner RSK, having two feed rollers 1, 2 (supply rollers), a saw-tooth roller 3 and a fibre material suction device 4. The direction of rotation of the rollers 1, 2 and 3 is shown by curved arrows. The currents of air in the fibre suction device 4 are indicated by arrows referenced 4a and 4b. On each common support member 5, 6 there are arranged a separator blade 7, 8, a suction chamber 9, 10 and two clothed fixed carding elements 11, 12 and 13, 14, respectively. At the rear end of the support member 5 there is attached an adjustable guide member 15 which cooperates with the downstream separator blade 8. The distance between the guide member 15 and the separator blade 8 is indicated by a. Between the lower feed roller 1 and the separator blade 7 and between the guide member 15 and the separator blade 8 there is a discharge opening 18 and 19, respectively, for discharging impurities, trash, dust and the like. The support members 5, 6 each have the separator blade 7, 8 on the end opposing the direction of rotation A of the saw-tooth roller 3. Each separator blade 7, 8 and the associated discharge opening 18 and 19 is associated with a respective suction chamber 9, 10. The suction chambers 9, 10 are connected to a suction source (not shown).
In the arrangement shown in Fig. 2, a clothed intermediate roller 20 and a disentangling and cleaning roller 21 are arranged downstream of the saw-tooth roller 3 of the cleaner of Fig. 1. A support member 22 is arranged in the gap below the two rollers 20, 21, an adjustable guide member 23 being located at the end of the portion extending underneath the roller 21. Furthermore, below the roller 21 there is a support member 5 to which a separator blade 7 and a suction device 9 are attached. A discharge opening 24 is left between the guide member 23 and the separator blade 7.
Fig. 3 shows in more detail one particular form for a support member 5. The support member 5 is formed by an extruded profile and has recesses 5a to 5e. Recess 5a is in the form of a groove of T-shaped cross-section. The separator blade 7, which is seated in a recess 5f, is secured in the T-shaped groove by means of a screw 25 and a nut 26 in such a manner that it can be displaced in the direction of the two arrows F and G. The recess Sb has the shape of a hollow cylinder. The suction chamber 9 has at one end a cylindrical projection 9a which is mounted in recess Sb so as to mount the chamber for pivotal movement in the direction of arrows H, I.At the rear end of the support member 5 seen in the direction of rotation A of the saw-tooth roller 3 (cf Fig. 1), the guide member 15 is mounted in a cylindrical recess Sc so as to be pivotable in the direction of arrows J, K. In a recess 5d of approximately T-shaped cross-section there are arranged two fixed carding elements 11 and 12 which are secured in the T-shaped groove 5e by a common fastening piece 27, a screw 28 and a nut 29.
A modification to the support member is shown in Fig. 4. A projection 5g of approximately part cylindrical shape is provided on the support member 5 as a fastening device. At one end of the suction chamber 9 there is a projection 9d, defining a recess approximately in the shape of a hollow cylinder, which fits over projection 5g. The suction chamber 9 is thus pivotable in the direction of arrows I and H. The elements 7, 11, 12 and 15 can likewise be attached to suitable projections on support member 5 (in a manner not shown.) Fig. 5 shows another modification to the support member 5 in which at the downstream end - seen in the direction of rotation A of the roller 3 - there is a projection 5k below which the recess Sc is located.At one end of the guide member 15, which is of approximately U-shaped cross-section, there is a cylindrical projection 15a which cooperates with the recess Sc to form a pivot joint. The central, straight portion 15b extends beyond the projection 5k somewhat. At the other end of the guide member 15 there is an adjustment lug 15c. The guide member 15 can be pivoted in the direction of arrows J and K into the position 15' in which it proJects into a relatively large recess Sh in the support member 5.
In another modification of the support member 5 shown in Fig. 6, a planar guide member 16 is provided which is arranged in a recess 5i so as to be displaceable in the direction of arrows L and M. The position of the guide member 16 can be fixed by a screw 30.
While in the description above with reference to Figs. 3 to 6, the support member has been given reference numeral 5, it will be understood that similar modifica tions may be made to the support member 6 of Fig. 1 at least so far as they are applicable to the member 6.
Fig. 7 shows a modification to the arrangement of Fig. 1 in which there is arranged below the feed roller 1 a support member 31 which projects into the gap between the feed roller 1 and the saw-tooth roller 3 and covers a portion of the circumference of the saw-tooth roller 3.
At the end of the support member 31 there is arranged an adjustable guide member 32 which cooperates with the separator blade 7 which is affixed to the downstream support member 5.
Fig. 8 shows the intake region of a carding machine, for example of the kind sold by Trutzschler GmbH & Co. KG as the EXACTACARD DK 740, having a feed roller 33, a feed platform 34, licker-in 35 and cylinder 36. At the end of the feed platform 34, facing the licker-in 35, there is an adjustable guide member 32. Below the licker-in 35 there are arranged two support members 5 and 6 of the type shown especially in Figs 1 and 3.
Fig. 9 shows a diagrammatic view of the carding machine according to Flg. 8 in which a doffer 37 is arranged downstream of the cylinder 36. Below the cylinder 36 there are arranged five support members 5 of the type shown especially in Figs. 1 and 3.
The direction of rotation of the rollers 33, 35, 36 and 37 is shown by curved arrows.
In Fig. 3, there are shown reference numerals 38, 39 which indicate two fastening screws and 40, 41 which indicate two longitudinal holes by means of which the distance c (marked in Fig. 5) of the support member 5 can be adjusted radially with respect to its associated roller 3, 21, 35, 36.

Claims (15)

1. A textile machine assembly including a roller, a cleaning or carding element associated with the roller, and a support member for mounting the cleaning or carding element in position, wherein the support member including a part shaped for mounting the cleaning or carding element in position, is formed by shaping of a hollow cylinder or tube.
2. An assembly according to claim 1, wherein the shaped part of the support member for mounting the cleaning or carding element comprises a recess.
3. An assembly according to claim 2, wherein the recess is of circular cylindrical shape.
4. An assembly according to claim 2 or 3, wherein the recess is in the form of a groove of T-shaped cross-section.
5. An assembly according to any one of claims 1 to 4, wherein a separator blade is mounted in a recess.
6. An assembly according to any one of claims 1 to 5, wherein a suction chamber is associated with the separator blade and that suction chamber is secured in a further recess.
7. An assembly according to any one of claims 1 to 6, wherein a clothed fixed carding element is mounted in a recess.
8. An assembly according to any preceding claim, wherein the support member consists of an extruded profile.
9. An assembly according to claim 8, wherein the hollow cylinder or tube forming the support member is drawn into the predetermined shape as it is formed.
10. An assembly according to any one of claims 1 to 9, wherein the radial distance (c) of the support member from the roller is adjustable.
11. An assembly according to any one of claims 1 to 10, wherein the support member is associated with a high-speed saw-tooth roller.
12. An assembly according to any one of claims 1 to 11, wherein at least two support members are arranged on a common support and the support is displaceable in parallel with the circumference of the roller around the axis of the roller.
13. An assembly according to claim 12, wherein the support members cover respective portions of the circumference of the roller.
14. An assembly according to any preceding claim, wherein the distance (a) of the guide member from a separator blade further downstream is adjustable.
15. An assembly according to any one of claims 1 to 14, wherein a further support member carrying cleaning and/or carding elements is provided, associated with the roller, the two support members being arranged on a common support unit for displacement in a direction around the circumference of the roller about the axis of the roller.
