Abstract

A badminton racket frame includes a head section and a handle section. The head section has an elliptical cross- section and changes in the plane of the head, from a lower portion to a side portion, from wider 4-4 to narrower 3-3, and changes, from the side portion to an upper portion, from narrower 3-3 to wider 14. A major axis of the elliptical cross- section of the head section faces toward a relative wind when the badminton racket frame swings so that the head section has a low drag coefficient. <IMAGE>

Description

TITLE: A BADMINTON RACKET FRAME BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION The present invention relates to a racket, and more particularly to a badminton racket frame.
The strength is generally the first consideration of the racket frame so that the racket frame will not distort or deform. As shown in FIGS. 5 and 6, normally, the head section 10 of the badminton racket frame has a substantially rectangular cross section. The front surface 61 and the rear surface 62 of the racket frame which face toward the relative wind are substantially a flat surface. The racket frame has a large drag coefficient which is not good for smash action. The experts may feel more sensitive about the drag coefficient than the others.
The present invention has arisen to mitigate and/or obviate the afore-described disadvantages of the conventional badminton racket frame.
SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION The primary objective of the present invention is to provide ç badminton racket frame which has a low drag coefficient and which is good for smash action.
In accordance with one aspect of the invention, there is provided a badminton racket frame which includes a head section and a handle section. The head section has an elliptical cross-section and chances, from a lower portion to a side portion, from wider to narrower, and changes, from the side portion to an upper portion, from narrower to wider. A major axis of the elliptical cross-section of the head section faces toward a relative wind when the badminton racket frame swings so that the head section has a low drag coefficient.
Further objectives and advantages of the present invention will become apparent from a careful reading of the detailed description provided hereinbelow, with appropriate reference to the accompanying drawings.
BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS FIG. 1 is a partial perspective view of a badminton racket frame in accordance with the present invention; FIG. 2 is a plane view of the badminton racket frame; FIG. 3 is a cross sectional view taken along lines 3-3 of FIG. 2; FIG. 4 is a cross sectional view taken along lines 4-4 of FIG. 2; FIG. 5 is a plane view of a conventional badminton racket frame; and FIG. 6 is a cross sectional view of the conventional badminton racket frame, taken along lines 6-6 of FIG. 5.
DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION Referring to the drawings and initially to FIGS. 1 and 2, the badminton racket frame in accordance with the present invention comprises generally a head section 10 and a handle section 20.
Referring next to FIGS. 3 and 4, the head section 10 has a substantially elliptical cross-section, or an airfoil shaped cross-section, in which, the crosssections of the side portions 12 of the head section 10 are shown in FIG. 3. The major axis AB of the cross section preferably has a length approximated to 12 mm.
The minor axis CD preferably has a length ranged from 6.7 mm to 7.2 mm. The ratio of the length of the major axis to the length of the minor axis is close to two.
The cross-sections of the upper and lower portions of the head section 10 are shown in FIG. 4. The major axis EF of the cross-section preferably has a length approximated to 9.2 mm. The minor axis GH preferably has a length ranged from 7.2 mm to 7.7 mm. The ratio of the length of the major axis to the length of the minor axis is close to 1.2 so that the structures of the upper and lower portions 11, 14 of the head section 10 are wider than the side portions 12 of the head section 10.
The cross-sections of the head section changes, from the lower portion 11 to the side portion 12 and to the upper portion 14, from wider to narrower and to wider again, best shown in FIG. 2. The major axes AB and EF are directed toward a relative wind when the racket frame is swinging or smashing so that the racket frame has a lower drag coefficient. Relatively, the side portions 12 which have longer major axis have higher strength against bending than the upper portion 14 and the lower portion 11 of the head section 10 which have wider minor axis. The substantially elliptical cross-sections of the head section provide the badminton racket frame a low drag coefficient which is good for smash action. The racket frame can be smashed with a faster speed so that a powerful smash can be obtained.
In addition, the head section 10 has a greater strength to resist relative wind due to the longer major axes AB and EF. Accordingly, the badminton racket frame in accordance with the present invention has a head section which has a lower drag coefficient which is good for smash action.
Although this invention has been described with a certain degree of particularity, it is to be understood that the present disclosure has been made bg way of example only and that numerous changes in the detailed construction and the combination and arrangement of parts may be resorted to without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention as hereinafter claimed.

Claims (3)
