Abstract

1434741 Moulding rackets R MARTEL 27 July 1973 [2 Aug 1972] 35824/73 Heading B5A [Also in Division A6] A method of manufacturing a racket frame by moulding is characterized in that in a mould 7, 8 having the desired contour there is disposed, so as to extend longitudinally within the components the frame to be obtained, glass or other fibres 5 of a length so as to extend throughout the contour of the frame, said fibres being embedded in a synthetic resin, e.g. a polyester resin, to form an inner core of the frame; and forming about this core, either in the mould or subsequently, an outer casing consisting of sheets 6a glass fabric or mat or the like impregnated with synthetic resin. To form holes in the frame for stringing, spindles 11 (which may be in the form of a comb, Fig. 11, not shown) can be inserted through guide holes 9, 13 in the mould parts 7, 8 and through the casing 6 (if present) and fibres 5 so as to part the fibres around the spindles, before the setting of the resin. A stiffening element consisting of a material such as balsa wood or plastics material may be incorporated in the shoulder portions of the frame and such element can have a varying thickness along its length.
