Abstract

1,122,895. Tennis rackets. S.A. R.L. PAUL PEILLEX & CO. 16 Feb., 1967 [21 Feb., 1966], No. 7411/67. Heading A6D. A tennis racket comprises a moulded synthetic plastics frame comprising a shell of moulded plastics material surrounding a light weight core which extends along the length of the racket handle and around the length of the racket head. As shown a tube 1 of synthetic plastics material filled with air or expanded plastic material and embedded in synthetic plastics material which may be reinforced with synthetic or natural fibres or tissues has two adjacent portions which separate to form a loop, these adjacent portions forming the handle with two other similar tubes 2, 3 arranged as shown. A triangular piece of synthetic plastics material 4 is disposed where the tube separates to form the loop and joined 'by a bridge 5 of fibres e.g. glass fibres impregnated with polymerisable plastic material. In another embodiment (Fig. 7, not shown) the core is formed from an expanded synthetic plastics material and the shape corresponds substantially exactly to the shape of the finished racket frame. The core may be embedded in an uncured resin composition, optionally containing reinforcement, particularly by glass fibre, before it is placed in the mould or it may be placed in the mould first together with reinforcements, if any, and the resin then injected into the mould.
