Abstract

224,533. British Thomson - Houston Co., Ltd., (Assignees of Baker, W. R. G.). Nov. 6, 1923, [Convention date]. Thermionic generators; thermionic and magnetic modulating systems.-Relates to signalling systems in which the output from a thermionic high-frequency generator is fed to an intermediate storage circuit, which transfers energy to the aerial system during marking intervals only, and not during spacing intervals although the valve is continuously active. In order to maintain the valve oscillations at constant frequency, in spite of the variable coupling between the storage and radiating circuits, the grid of the oscillator is energized from the radiating circuit only. High-frequency oscillations from the valve 1 are fed to the storage circuit 7, 8 which is coupled through an earthed link circuit 13, 14, 15 with a radiating antenna 10, 11, 12 of the multiple tuned type. The coupling between the storage and radiating circuits is controlled by a magnetic modulator 21, 22, which detunes the storage circuit under the action of a signalling key 23. The necessary grid excitation to maintain the valve oscillations is derived by a tapping 17 from the coil 16, the connection including a shunted condenser 18, 19 and a series resistance 20.
