Thermionic oscillation generators and modulating systems.-A transmitting system comprises three-electrode valves 2, 3, having coupled grid and plate circuits for producing oscillations and oppositely connected to a source 1 of lowfrequency alternating current, a second pair of valves 4, 5 for modulating the oscillations, also oppositely connected to the source 1, and an inductance 10 common to all the plate circuits. The plate circuits are fed through a transformer 8, the middle point of the secondary of which is connected to earth through the inductance 10. A shunt for the high-frequency currents is provided by condensers 17, 18 and a coil 19 which is coupled to a coil 20 in the grid circuits of tubes 2, 3 and to a coil 23 in the aerial, which is the only tuned circuit in the system. Choke coils 11, 14 are provided in the plate circuits. Signalling currents may be impressed upon the grids of the modulating valves 4, 5, alterations of the plate currents varying the potential drop across the inductance 10 in the plate circuits of the oscillating valves. The filaments are heated by means of a transformer 6, 7, the middle point of the secondary 7 being preferably grounded.
