Guarding against unauthorized use. - The change gear control mechanism is locked by means of a lug and a, lock both carried by a block or skeleton frame. In the construction shown in Figs. 1, 2 and 4, the operating lever 3 is held in, for instance, the reverse slot of the gate by a block 1 which is of such a shape that it can be inserted through the neutral gap by rotation about the point x so that the lug 4 engages under the bar 5. Removal of the block 1 is then prevented by a padlock 7, the body of which bears against the top of the gate and against the lug 6 on the block. In a modification the lock forms an integral part of the block. In a further modification shown in Fig. 9 a lever 16 is pivoted to the block and may be locked in the position shown in dotted lines so that the block cannot be withdrawn through the neutral slot in the gate. Fig. 7 shows a construction suitable for concealed gates. A skeleton frame 10 contacts with the floor and engages under the ball top 14 so as to hold the lever 11 in forward position. A padlock 15 prevents displacement of the skeleton frame.
