Abstract

A bearing system for a deflection roller (3) at the end of a conveyor belt track has a bearing flange (6) mounted on each side cheek of the track. Each bearing flange (6) has an insertion aperture (5) oriented obliquely relative to the conveying track to facilitate the removal and replacement of a journal bearing (2) for the roller (3). The bearing flange (6) is longitudinally adjustable relative to the track via eye bolt (10). A tensioning roller (13) is also adjustably mounted on an insert (14) fixed to the flange (6). <IMAGE>

Description

1 !2:2 C.) -=, --, 1 Bearinq svstem for a deflection roller The invention
relates to a bearing system for a deflection roller of a conveyor belt with a shaft supported in bearing flanges mounted on side cheeks of a conveying track.
German Patent Specification No. 33 12 196 describes an adjustable bearing system of a driving roll for applying tension to the belt of a belt conveying device.
The insertion and removal of this driving roll and also of the deflection roller at the end of a section of the conveying track, to enable the conveyor belt to be changed, is only possible after the laborious operation of dismantling the rollers.
The present invention is directed at a bearing system design for a deflection roller of a conveyor belt which reduces the amount of labour required in the removal and replacement of a deflection roller. In a bearing system of the invention, each bearing flange has an insertion aperture oriented obliquely relative to the conveying track, for a journal bearing of the deflection roller. Normally, the insertion aperture is open in a direction towards the end of the conveyor track. The preferably upward, oblique orientation of the insertion aperture facilitates extraction of the journal bearings from the bearing system. When the insertion aperture faces toward the end of the conveyor, the deflection roller is therefore moved past the deflection roller of an adjacent section of the conveying rack as it is removed.
If the conveyor belt is to be kept very tight each bearing flange can be longitudinally adjustable relative to the respective side cheek of the conveying track. For this purpose, it may be provided with longitudinal slots arranged parallel to the side cheek and serving to receive guide bolts. The bearing flange may also have a stop face for the nut of an'adjusting screw which is fixed to the side cheek for accurate positioning therein.
2 The adjusting screw may take the form of an eye bolt mounted on a screw abutment bolt fixed to the side cheek.
In systems of the invention each bearing flange can have two supports for locating and guiding it in the side cheek and an aperture for the lateral insertion and removal of an adjustable contraction.roller mounted by means of bearing inserts in the bearing flange. The bearing insert can have an adjusting slot for a contraction roller, adjustable by means of a regulating screw, for the conveyor belt. The adjusting slot is preferably oriented substantially parallel to the open face of the insertion aperture, covered by the bearing insert, which can be secured by means of screws.
An embodiment of the invention will now be described by way of example and with reference to the accompanying schematic drawings wherein:
Figure 1 is a side view of a bearing system; Figure 2 is a plan view of the system shown in Figure 1; Figure 3 is a cross-section taken on the line III III of Figure 1; and Figure 4 is a cross-section taken on the line IV-IV of Figure 1.
Bearing flanges 6 for journal bearings 2 of deflection rollers 3 for conveyor belts 4 are affixed to the ends of the side cheeks of a conveying track. The bearing flanges 6 have upwardly slanting insertion apertures for the journal bearings 2. For purposes of simplification only the bearing flange of one deflection roller is illustrated; an adjacent deflection roller is shown in outline to demonstrate that the deflection roller appearing on the right can be lifted out of the upwardly slanting insertion aperture 5 by moving it past the other roller. The journal bearing 2 is affixed to the bearing flange by means of screws 17.
3 The bearing flange 6 has a stop face 9 for a nut of an adjusting screw 10 in the form of an eye bolt, which is affixed to a screw abutment bolt 19 on the side cheek 1. To enable the adjustment to be effected the bearing flange 6 is provided with longitudinal slots 7 for guide bolts 8 affixed to the side cheek 1 and also with a groove 24 for an adjusting nut 22 of. a screw 23. In addition, the bearing flange 6 is guided in the side cheek 1 by means of two supports 20.
A bearing insert 14, having an adjusting slot 11 for adjusting the shaft of a contraction roller 13, is fixed in the bearing flange 6 by means of screws 15. The shaft is adjusted by the aid of a regulating screw 12, of which the head, rests against the bearing flange 6. The latter is provided, to enable the contraction roller 13 to be inserted from the side with a lateral aperture 21 which is covered by the bearing insert 14. A sheet metal hood 18 extends from one side cheek 1 to the other as a safeguard against accidental contact and is affixed to the two bearing flanges 6 by means of screws 16.
