Abstract
A fishing rod holdall comprising a moulded or extruded body 2 provided with cups 7 and 8 attached to strips of semi-rigid material 5 which when pulled allows the easy withdrawal of the contents of any longitudinal space formed within the body by integral partitions where the contents are of a lesser length than the space. The bottom of the body may be sealed by individual plugs or caps or by one cap 9. The cross-section 6 illustrates two different cross-sections for the longitudinal spaces the tops of which are temporarily sealed with appropriately shaped plugs 3 and 4 which may be attached to the semi-rigid material 5 attached to the cups 7 and 8. The holdall so formed provides both the means of carriage and the protection for the contents in the one unit without further addition or modification. <IMAGE>
Description
FISHING ROD HOLDALL
This invention relates to a fishing rod holdalt.
The fishing rod holdall in its earliest form was a cloth bag which was long and narrow with an opening at the top which could be closed by various means. The holdall was fitted with a strap or a hand grip.
Fishing rod holdalls are used to carry fishing rods including the roach pole an umbrella and other long thin items of equipment including landing net handles and bank sticks.
Various materials have benn used for mkaing the bag. All have benn flexible and chosen to provide durability and to provide some protection to the contents from damage and inclement weather.
As rods became lighter and more delicate a rigid stiffener was added to provide additional protection from bending and to spread the increasing load caused by the addition of an umbrella and an incrtease in the number of types of rods and other pieces of equipment used. This combination lead to to an increase in damage to the rods, and rod tubes were introduced. A rod tube is a tube of light weight material of uniform bore with a fixed bottom and a datachable top into which a rod can be placed. A rod tube gives portection to the rod but is cut to a length slightlg in excess of the loginest part of the rod. The rod is remowed by pulling the rod bag containing the rod parts from the tube.
Vauious wass are used to open and close fishing rod holdalls but all allow the contents to be affected bs inclement weather.
This invention provides a fishing rod hlodall which comprises a tube of regular or irreaular shape in crose section. The tube is Provided with integral tonsitudinal partitione. The tube mas be cut back to prowide warious arrangements of the longitudinal spaces or eroups of spaces. Various thicknesses of material are used to form the walls of the tube the interal partitions and the flanges providing both means of carriage and protection.
Each longitudinal space is closed off at the bottom end individualls or as part of a group of spaces up to and includine the total number of spaces prowided.
Into each lonsitudinal space is inserted a preformed cup of a similar cross section to the respective longitudinal space, free to slide alons the space and attached to a semi-rigid strip of material thus Providing the mea whereby the contents of the space can be removed irrespective of the length of those contents'. Each longitudinal sPace is fitted at the top end with a means to seal it off or to give access as required. The means of prowiding this openable and closeable access mas be attached to the strip of semi-rigid material attached to the Preformed cuP inserted into each space.
In the case of the space intended for the carriase of the umbrella the means of provlding access mas alternativels take the form of a short preformed tube closed at its top end ita bottom end open to accommodate a portion of the central shaft of the umbrella and arranged to push into the umbrella spce to a predetermined distance.
The means of carriase of the holdall is provided bs fitting a strap or handle or some other device to intearal flanges on the holdall.
8 specifie embodiment of the invention wil now be desoribed bs was of three examples with reference to the accompanging drawings in which
Figure 1 showa a holdall with its component partas
Figure 2 shows a holdall with its component parts with an alternative arrangement of the longitudinal spaces.
Figure 3 shows a holdall with its component parts with an alternative arrangement of the longitudinal spaces illustrating a uniform length of the longitudinal apaces.
Referring to the drawings the holdall bods 2 is a preformed moulding or an extrusion with a cross-section 6.
The holdall bodg 2 is cut to length if formed bs extrusion and portions of excess material removed to achiewe the desired lensths of the longitudinal spaces with the excestion of the example shown in Fig. 3.
A Preformed base =L,,,, is is fitted to the bottom Of the holds 1 body 2.
preformed cups 7 and 8 are fitted to strips of semi-rigid material 5 of appropriate length which are fitted to Plugs 3 and 4 respectively.
The P reformed Cups 7 and 8 illustrate two different, sections to fit a longitudinal space with a triangular cross-section and to fit a longitudinal apace with a square cross-section respectivels.
The Preformed pluss 8 and 4 are to fit into the top of a logitudinal space with a square cross-section and into the top of a longitudinal space with a triansular cross-section respectivels. The pullers made op up from parts 3, 4, 5, 7, and B are fed into their respective spaces.
Appropriate nubers of pullers are made up and inserted int the logitudinal spaces so that there is one to each.
In Figs. 1 and 2 it is intended that the central square section space is used for the carriage of an umbrella.
A puller is provided for this space but without the plus as it is intended that the space is cut to a lensth to allow the umbrella to be nemoved bs graspins its central shaft.
The puller is provided so that and water which drains off is contained and so that the space can be used for other equipment if desired. The preformed plus 1 is a tube sealed at its top end and is reduced in section at the bottom end so that a fortion is a tight fit in the square section longitudinal space. The bottom end of this plus 1 is open and accomdates the central shaft of an umbrella, the semi-risid material; 5 can be attached to the plug 1 bg means which are permanent or be means which allow detachment.
In the example in Fig. 3 the semi-risid material 5 is increased in strensth for the puller which will be used for withdrawins the wnbrella and a second lensth fixed to the opposite side if desired.
The holdall 2 is prowided with two intesral flanses to which can be fitted bs various means a handle and a strap for carrging the holdall. The two flanges can also be perforated at suitable positions to allow lashings to be fitted to secure the holdall for carriase bs other means.
In use the holdall will have the Preformed cups already in Place. each will be Partially withdrawn and a rod or other piece of equipment will be slid carefullg down the longitudinal space to rest in the cup and the cup and content are lowered to the bottom of the space and the P lug used to temporarily closs the top of the space.
For retriewal the plus is removed the semi-risid material is grasped and pulled out of the space to pull the cup up from the bottom and in so doins brins with it the contents of the space so that once a Portion of the comtents have emerged from the lonsitudinal space the contents can be grasped and removed completels.
