Description
1 A GUIDE TABLE FOR PORTABLE MILLING MACHIERS The invention relates to a
guide table for milling machines and particularly to a guide table for portabl milling machines.
In the case of a known guide table, the portable milling machine, for example a route machine, can be fixed so that an edge of the workpiece guided by the presser shoe can be machined with the milling tool. The abutment plate is thereby rigidly connected to the base plate. The presser shoe is supported by guide plates having angled-over guide edges and is mounted for free movement on the base plate and the abutment plate, which is adapted to be clamped by means of screws.
By reason of the fixed abutment plate, it is only possible to machine the workpiece on or in the vicinity of its edge.
For accurate adjustment of the presser shoe on the workpiece involved, it is necessary to slacken a plurality of screwed joints. If, during the process the clamping screw for the vertically acting presser shoe is released, then the presser shoe is able to fall freely. This is obviously disadvantageous as it can result in the milling tool and the presser shoe being damaged.
Therefore, the problem on which the present invention addresses is that of providing a milling table of the type mentioned at the outset with which the workpiece can be universally machined, and which permits accurate and reliable adjustment of the presser means.
According to the invention, there is provided a guide table for portable milling machines, having a base plate and an abutment plate at rightangles to it, a holding element having biased presser means being movably and lockably disposed on the base plate, and a further holding element being movably and lockably disposed on the abutment plate; wherein the abutment plate and the milling machine are mounted on the base plate-so as to be lockable and movable at right-angles to the milling machine axis. Preferably the presser means comprises a presser shoe.
Preferably, the base plate of the guide table includes fastening means to enable the abutment plate to be mounted at various distances from the milling machine axis. The fastening means may comprise a plurality of bores into which screw bolts are fitted.
By virtue of the fact that the abutment plate can be adjusted in its distance from the milling axis, it is possible to machine the workpiece not only on or in the bl 1 1 vicinity of its edge but over its entire cross-section. This means a considerable widening of the possibilities afforded by the guide table according to the invention.
Advantageously, an end face of the base plate and of the abutment plate includes a retaining angle member having a free arm which comprises an elongated hole engaged by fastening means, for example a clamping screw, with which a retaining arm having an elongated hole is movably and lockably mounted. The respective retaining angle member of the base plate and the abutment plate are preferably arranged at right angles to one another.
Preferably, resilient means, such as a thrust spring, is disposed between a clamping nut and the retaining arm, and this serves to urge the retaining arm against the retaining angle member.
Preferably, the retaining angle member incudes at least one support member onto which an adjusting sleeve of a fine adjustment means for the milling machine can be fixed at right angles to the milling machine axis. Preferably, the support member comprises a lateral tongue on the arm of the retaining angle member. Advantageously, at least one guide rod of the ring adjustment means includes resilient means, such as a thrust spring, which urges the milling machine towards i the abutment plate.
For accurate adjustment of the presser means, it is only ever necessary to slacken one nut. As resilient means is provided between the nut and the retaining arm of the presser means, the retaining arm is held securely and th vertically acting presser means cannot drop onto the milling machine. Hence, the safety of the apparatus as a whole is substantially improved.
By way of example only, an embodiment of the invention will now be described with reference to the accomapnying drawings, in which:
Fig. 1 shows a side view of the guide table, and Fig. 2 shows a plan view of the guide table of Fig. 1.
The guide table 1 can be mounted on a work top 4 by its base plate 2 using screw clamps 3.
At right-angles to its supporting surfaces 5, there are provided pairs of bores 6 into which two screw bolts 7 can be fitted and fixed with wing nuts.
Fixed on these screw bolts 7 at right-angles to the base plate 2 with a bracket 9 is an abutment plate 10 which has i 1 1 a further supporting surface 11. After the wing nuts 8 have been slackened, therefore, the screw bolts 7 can be inserted into the other pair of holes 6 and the abutment plate 10 can be shifted accordingly.
Guided on the two supporting surfaces 5 and 11, the workpiece 12 can be machined by a milling tool 13 which can be driven by a portable milling machine 14, in this case a routing machine, and which has a milling axis 15.
The milling machine 14 is movably fitted on the under side of the base plate 2 so that the milling tool 13 extends through an aperture 16 in the base plate 2 and projects beyond the support#ig surface 5.
Fixed in the middle of the end faces 17 of base plate 2 and abutment plate 10 by means of screws 18 are retaining angle members 19, the free arms 20 of which project beyond the supporting surfaces 5, 11.
Each comprises an elongated hole 21 engaged by a screw 22 onto which a clamping nut 23 is screwed.
Fixed on the free arm 20 is a U-shaped guide 24 in which a retaining arm 25 is mounted for movement parallel with the supporting surface 5. It also comprises an elongated hole 26 into which the screw 22 engages.
Provided between the clamping nut 23 and the retaining arm 25 is a clamping sleeve 27 with a shoulder 28, a thrust spring 29 being disposed between the shoulder 28 and the clamping nut 23. Thus, when the clamping nut 23 is slackened, the shoulder 28 is pressed against the retaining arm 25, preventing movement of this retaining arm 25.
Resiliently spring-mounted at the forward end of retaining arm 25 are presser shoes 30 which are subject to the action of springs 31 on bolts 32 and serve to guide the workpiece 32.
It is possible to fit a narrow guide strip 33 on the horizontally acting presser shoe 30. It serves to guide narrow workpie ces 12 and engages under the vertically acting presser shoe 30.
For fixing the milling machine 14 on the base plate 2, two guide rods 34 are used and are movably mounted in bores 35 in the bases plate 2.
For accurate adjustment of the milling tool 13, a fine adjustment means 36 is used with an adjusting sleeve 37, 1 the fine adjustment means 36 being disposed on a lateral tongue 39 on the retaining angle member 19.
A thrust spring 40 on a guide rod 34 urges on the milling machine 14 against the abutment plate 10, a setting ring 41 screwed to a guide rod 34 serving a an abutment. By rotating the adjusting sleeve 37, the milling tool 13 can be displaced into any desired position at right- angles to the abutment plate 10.
As Fig. 2 shows, the base plate 2 includes movable extension brackets 42 which securely support the workpiece 12.
