Abstract
223,637. Wilkinson, R. July 19, 1923. Sheet-cutting machines.-In panning mechanism for biscuits, confectionery, &c., of the kind in which an endless continuously-moving conveying web 14 with a reciprocating knife-edge delivery end 16 is adapted to effect the panning on a continuously-moving pan-conveyer 19, means are provided, such as a web 11, adapted to receive whilst in a stationary condition "cuts" of biscuits &c. from the usual intermittentlymoving cutting web 1, and then move at an increasing speed in the direction of movement of the upper run of the web 14 until the speed of the biscuits is equal to that of said web, and then to deposit them thereon. The accelerating and depositing web 11 consists of a piece of webbing loosely folded round a plate 12, the two ends being secured to a bar 13 which is subject to a reciprocating movement by means of cams &c., while an auxiliary web 8 may be provided between the webs 1, 11. The pan-conveyer 19 is driven by a shaft 46 from mechanism, Fig. 2, so arranged and adapted to operate that the drives of the said conveyer at panning speed and at an accelerated speed at the conclusion of the panning stroke are capable of variation in inverse ratio to each other. The shaft 46 is driven continuously by two ratchet-wheels 44, 45 operated, through levers 47, 48, by a lever 27, which receives its motion from two other levers 24, 31 operated by cams 30, 36 respectively. The lever 24, which may be called the constant-speed lever, is connected to the lever 27 by a rod 26 having an adjustable pin and slot connection 28, while the accelerating lever 31 is also connected by an adjustable connection 40 and rod 32 to the lower end of the lever 27, which works in a slot 33. Between the two levers 24, 31 is arranged a bar, having a pair or transverse slots in which the pins 28, 40 work, and adjustable so as to move longitudinally with respect to said levers and in a plane parallel thereto, adjustment of the bar causing the pins 28, 40 to move in opposite directions, thus increasing the effective length of one of the levers 24, 31 and decreasing the length of the other.
