Abstract

Wheels, runners, and skids; floats, arrangement of.-In a combination landing gear for permitting an aeroplane or seaplane to land on snow or ice, skis 8, loosely mounted on stub-axles 9 hinged on the aeroplane landing wheel axle 1, or an axle projecting from the seaplane float or hull, may be swung by the pilot into an operative or inoperative position, the stub axles 9 being prevented from swinging upward when the skis a.re in the operative position, by rotation of the axle 1. The axle 1 is extended and has mounted upon each end a hinge A, one arm 6 of which is rigidly fixed to the axle 1, whilst the other arm 7 has secured thereon the stub-axle 9 which forms a bearing for the ski 8. Fig. 1<a> shows the ski in its inoperative position. To bring the ski to an operative position the ski 8 is swung outwardly by a cable to the dotted line position, after which the axle 1 is rotated through 180‹ by chain and sprocket mechanism 10, 11 into the position shown in Fig. 1, in which the abutting portions of the arms 6, 7, prevent upward movement of the stub-axle 9. To raise the ski to the inoperative position a reverse operation is performed.
