Description
A BOTTLE CONTAINING A PRODUCT FOR BIRDS
This invention relates to a bottle containing a product for birds.
Products for birds such for example as bird seed, bird sand and bird grit are traditionally sold in cardboard packets. Knilst the cardboard packets form inexpensive containers, they are not totally satisfactory in use. More specifically, it is not always possible to see how much of a particular product is left in the package, and pouring of the product is often difficult.
Furthermore, the known packages are not sealable so that the bird products are not sealed in the package once the package has been opened. Where vitamins have been added to the bird products, these vitamins may lose their effectiveness or they may disappear.
It is an aim of the present invention to obviate or reduce the above mentioned problems.
Accordingly, this invention provides a bottle which is made of a transparent material, which has a sealable top, and which contains a product which is specifically marketed for birds.
Because the bottle is made of the transparent material, the product can easily be seen. The basic construction of the bottle is such that it has a neck which facilitates easy pouring of the product from the bottle. The sealable top enables the product in the bottle to be kept air-tight. The product can thus be maintained in a fresh condition and deterioration and/or loss of vitamins is reduced to a minimum.
The bottle may be one in which the product is for consumption by the birds, and in which the product has added vitamins.
The product will usually be a solid product.
The product may thus be bird seed, bird sand, bird grit, peanuts for birds or wild bird food. The bird seed may be for use by birds such for example as budgerigars and canaries. The bottle may contain other solid bird products which may either be consumption or external use by the birds who may be caged birds or wild birds.
If desired, the product in the bottle may be a liquid such for example as caged bird water. The caged bird water will usually be spring water with added vitamins. Other liquid products may be provided in the bottle.
Preferably, the top of the bottle is a screw top. Other types of tops such for example as a clip-on top may however be employed.
The top may act as a measuring cap for dispensing measured quantities of the product. The measuring cap may be provided with measuring markings if desired.
Advantageously, the bottle has side grip portions. The side grip portions may facilitate gripping of the bottle, for example during a pouring action.
The side grip portions may advantageously be constituted by ridges formed as an integral part of the bottle.
The bottle may be of any desired size and shape. Preferably, the bottle is substantially rectangular in cross section so that it has large substantially flat front and back walls, and relatively narrow side walls.
Preferably, the transparent material is a transparent plastics material. Any suitable and appropriate type of transparent plastics material may be employed. If desired, the transparent material may also be glass.
Advantageously, the bottle includes a marketing sleeve. The marketing sleeve may contain the name of the products, and/or a trade mark for the product, and/or general advertising literature such for example as a picture designed to promote good sales of the bottle and its product.
The provision of the marketing sleeve is unusual in that bottles are traditionally not provided with sleeves. Bottles are traditionally provided with labels such for example as stick-on labels or printed labels which are printed direct to the bottle.
When the bottle is provided with side grip portions, then the sleeve may have apertures for exposing the side grip portions.
The sleeve may have two opposed apertures for exposing two opposed side grip portions.
An embodiment of the invention will now be described solely by way of example and with reference to the accompanying drawings in which:
Figure 1 is a perspective view of a bottle in accordance with the invention; and
Figure 2 is a side view of the bottle shown in Figure 1.
Referring to the drawings, there is shown a bottle 2 which is made of a transparent plastics material and which has a sealable top 4. The top 4 is provided with ridges 6 as shown to enable the top easily to be gripped and to be screwed on and off a neck part 8 of the bottle 2. The neck part 8 forms a pouring aperture for a body part 10 of the bottle 2.
The bottle 2 contains bird seed 12. Only some of the bird seed 12 has been shown for simplicity of illustration. The bird seed 12 may be another type of product which is specifically marketed for birds so that the products may be, for example, bird sand, bird grit, peanuts for birds, wild bird food or caged bird water. The top 4 may act as a measuring cap for dispensing measured quantities of the product such for example as the bird seed 12 in the bottle 2.
The bottle 2 has side grip portions 14, 16.
The side grip portions are constituted by ridges 18 formed as an integral part of the bottle 2. The side grip portions 14, 16 are formed in recessed parts of the bottle 2 as shown.
The bottle 2 is substantially rectangular in cross section so that it has a relatively large and flat front wall 20 and a similarly relatively large and flat rear wall 22. The bottle 2 then has side walls which are relatively narrow, one of these side walls being shown as side wall 24 in Figures 1 and 2.
The bottle 2 includes a marketing sleeve 26.
The marketing sleeve 26 fits all around the bottle 2 as shown and it has a pair of opposed apertures, one of which is shown as aperture 28, for exposing the two opposed side grip portions 14, 16. The marketing sleeve 26 may contain various types of advertising/promotional information such for example as the name of the product in the bottle 2, a trade mark, and/or a picture of birds.
The name of the makers and/or other information such as information that the bird seed 12 or other product is provided with vitamins may also be included on the marketing sleeve 26. The marketing sleeve 26 can easily be printed with whatever information is desired and then it can easily be slipped over the bottle 2 to fit in a recessed part 30 of the body part 10 as can best be seen from Figure 2.
It is to be appreciated that the embodiment of the invention described above with reference to the accompanying drawings has been given by way of example only and that modifications may be effected. Thus, for example, although the transparent material from which the bottle 2 is made is a transparent plastics material, the bottle 2 could also be made of glass if desired. The bottle 2 may be of a different shape to that shown in the drawings.
Also, the screw top 4 could be a clip-on cap or other type of top if desired.
