Abstract

Lead compounds containing lead oxychloride are treated to obtain lead carbonate free from chlorine by mixing the compounds with lime in the presence of water and then introducing carbonic acid. The lead oxychloride is suspended in water and agitated with lime until a filtered portion shows no lead in solution, when carbon dioxide is introduced until two-thirds of the lead is converted to carbonate. The precipitate is separated for instance by decantation, and is again treated with lime and carbon dioxide. Specification 2089/00 is referred to. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 (3) (a) includes the treatment of other compounds of lead and chlorine, an example being a solution of lead chloride in sodium chloride. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
