Abstract
A cover (1) for a rotary clothes line comprises a central portion (2) and at least one side portion (3) connected to an associated side of the central portion (2), such that, in use, the cover (1) can be placed over the clothes line with the or each side portion (3) extending downwardly. The central portion (2) may take other shapes to match the shape of the particular rotary clothes line. The edges of the side portions (3) may be releasably fastened together. <IMAGE>
Description
ROTARY CLOTHES LINE COVER
DESCRIPTION
This invention relates to a cover for a rotary clothes line with a plurality of arms which have one end slidably mounted upon an upright, central pole for movement between open and closed positions and between which are supported lengths of a clothes line.
Accordingly, the invention provides a cover for a rotary clothes line of the type described above, which cover comprises a central portion whose shape is generally polygonal and corresponds substantially with that defined by the free ends of the support arms remote from the central pole and by the outermost lengths of clothes line supported between respective pairs of adjacent arms, and at least one side portion connected to an associated side of the polygonally-shaped central portion such that, in use, the cover can be placed over the clothes line, with the central portion extending over the lengths of clothes line supported between the arms in the open position thereof and the or each side portion extends downwardly from its associated side of the central portion and between a respective pair of adjacent free arm ends.
Preferably, the number of side portions of the cover is equal to the number of sides of the polygonally-shaped central cover portion. In the preferred embodiment of cover in accordance with the invention, all but two of the side portions are connected to both adjacent side portions, thereby providing access to the interior of the cover in use thereof. Alternatively, the two adjacent, unconnected edges of the two side portions may be detachably connected together by any suitable means, for example, by the fabric hook and loop arrangement sold under the Trade Mark "VELCRO".
In the preferred embodiments, three or four sided covers are preferred, depending upon the particular shape of rotary clothes line with which the cover is to be used. For instance, a three sided cover will be used upon a three sided rotary clothes line, namely, one with three support arms, whilst a four sided cover will be used upon a four sided line having four support arms.
In order that the invention may be more fully understood, embodiments of rotary clothes line cover in accordance therewith will now be described by way of example and with reference to the accompanying drawing in which:
Fig. 1 is a plan view of the cover partially assembled; and
Fig. 2 is a view of the assembled cover in use.
Referring to the drawings, a cover indicated generally at 1, is shown partially assembled in Fig.
1 and comprises a central portion 2 in the shape of an equilateral triangle and three generally rectangular side portions 3 each having one edge connected to an associated edge of the top portion 2. To assemble the cover 1, adjacent edges of adjacent side portions 3 are stitched or otherwise suitably connected together, leaving one pair of adjacent side portion edges 4 unconnected.
The central and side portions 2,3 are made of a rainproof, waterproof, showerproof or other suitable material.
In use of the assembled cover 1 with a rotary clothes line 10, as shown in Fig. 2, the cover can be draped over the line in the event of rain, so that the central portion 2 extends over the top of the line defined between the free ends of the three support arms 11, with the three side portions 3 each hanging down a respective side of the line 10, thereby preventing rain from falling on to any washing hanging on the line.
The unconnected edges 4 provide access to the interior of the cover 1 draped over the line 10 but, in another embodiment, can be releasably connected together by any suitable means, for instance, the fabric hook and loop arrangement sold under the Registered
Trade Mark "VELCRO".
To retain the cover 1 more securely on the rotary clothes line 10 during use, suitable connectors 12 may be provided at the apices of the triangular central portion 2, for detachable connection to the free ends of the support arms 11.
It is to be appreciated that the number of sides of the central portion depends upon the number of sides or arms of the rotary clothes line with which the cover 1 is to be used. For instance, a line with four such arms 11 will have a generally square central portion.
Further, a circular central portion could be envisaged, with one or more arcuate side portions.
Claims (11)
1. A cover for a rotary clothes line as defined above, which cover comprises a central portion whose shape is generally polygonal and corresponds sunstantially with that defined by the free ends of the support arms remote from the central pole and by the outermost lengths of clothes line supported between respective pairs of adjacent arms, and at least one side portion connected to an associated side of the polygonally-shaped central portion such that, in use, the cover can be placed over the clothes line, with the central portion extending over the lengths of clothes line supported between the arms in the open position thereof and the or each side portion extends downwardly from its associated side of the central portion and between a respective pair of adjacent free arm ends.
2. A rotary clothes line cover as claimed in claim 1, wherein the number of side portions of the cover is equal to the number of sides of the polygonallyshaped central cover portion.
3. A rotary clothes line cover according to claim 1 or 2, wherein all but two of the side portions are connected to both adjacent side portions, thereby providing access to the interior of the cover in use thereof.
4. A rotary clothes line cover according to claim 3, wherein the two adjacent, unconnected edges of the two side portions are detachably connectable together.
5. A rotary clothes line cover according to claim 4, wherein the two adjacent, unconnected edges are detachably connectable together by means of a fabric hook and loop arrangement.
6. A rotary clothes line cover according to any preceding claim having three or four sides.
7. A rotary clothes line cover according to any preceding claim made of a rainproof, waterproof or showerproof material.
8. A rotary clothes line cover according to any preceding claim including a generally circular central portion and one or more arcuate side portions.
9. A rotary clothes line cover according to any preceding claim including connectors provided at the edge of the central portion for detachably connecting the cover to the free ends of the support arms.
10. A rotary clothes line cover according to claim 9 having a triangular central portion with the connectors provided at the apices thereof.
11. A cover for a rotary clothes line substant- ially as hereinbefore described with reference to the accompanying drawings.
