Abstract
222,272. Marks, E. C. R., (Snappy Manufacturing Co. of Canada, Ltd.). Aug. 9, 1923. Animal traps.-In a break-back trap the catch rod 17 restraining the usual break-back frame 13 is engaged under an horizontal lip 25 integral with an upstanding plate 22 attached to the baitlever 19 of light metal strip. A portion 21 of this bait-lever is slit and depressed so that the bait-lever pivots loosely thereby on the spindle 12 in all directions, and particularly transversely. Any such transverse movement of the bait-lever bv the animal causes one or other of the edges 23, 24 of the upstanding plate 22 to lever the catch-rod from under the lip 25 and to spring the trap, whilst any up and down motion of the baitlever causes one or other of the curved edges 26, 27 of the lip 25 to lever the catch-rod free. In a modification, Figs. 8 and 13, a slot 56 in the upstanding plate on the bait-lever 19 coacts with a sinuous end 67 of the catch-rod. If the baitlever is disturbed transversely or vertically one of the vertical ends of the upstanding plate or the upper edge of the slot 56 respectively levers the end 67 out of the slot to free the catch-rod.
