Abstract

A compact notebook holder has a body 1 which supports papers and notebooks. The body is releasably secured with various methods (hook and loop strips, tongue and groove slotting units) to the machine in use (generally to the monitor housing). A lip 2 is provided at the lower edge of the body 1 to hold copy, notebooks, or other matter. An attachment edges 3 with attachment means (7 and 8, 7 and 9, or hook and loop strips) is also provided. When not in use, the lip 2, and the attachment edge 3 can be folded on hinges (4 and 5, Fig 1) shared with the body 1 into a compact unit for carrying or storage. Integrated hinges (4 and 5) allow this freedom of action. <IMAGE>

COMPACT PAGE AND NOTEBOOK HOLDER-cum COPYHOLDER This invention relates to a compact portable copyholder.

Copyholders are well known products which hold items to be typed or entered as data.

They sit on a desk or are attached to a movable arm. They are typically bulky and cannot be used in situations where portable computers and typewriters are being used, ie.

aeroplanes, trains, According to the present invention there is provided a compact page and notebook holder-cum-copyholder comprising a main body in the form of a flat surface large enough to support a page, means for releasably attaching the body to the machine being used, and means for securing paper, notebooks, or other items in view.

A specific embodiment of the invention will now be described by way of example with reference to the accompanying drawings in which: Figure 1 shows in perspective the open compact copyholder Figure 2 shows the closed compact copyholder Figure 3 shows a verticle section illustrating the moveable lower lip Figure 4 shows the compact copyholder in position on a machine Figure 5 shows the "tongue and groove" releasable mounts Figure 6 shows the "groove" in planar view Figure 7 shows the "tongue" in planar view Figure 8 shows the "groove" in perspective Figure 9 shows the tongue" in perspective Referring to the drawing the compact page and notebook holder comprises a back plate 1, and a lower lip 2, for holding papers, notebooks, or other matter, and an attachment edge 3 for connection to the machine being used.

In order to use the copyholder the front lip 2 is rotated 90 degrees on hinge 4, then the attachment edge 3 is opened out by 225 degrees on hinge 5. The unit is now ready to be attached using attachment units 7 and 8, or hook and loop material.

To remove the page and notebook holder from the machine in use the steps described above are carried out in reverse.

A second specific embodiment of the invention will now be described by way of example with reference to the accompanying drawing, in which: Figure 10 shows the open compact copyholder with tongue and manufacturer installed slots on a generalized machine ready to be joined.

Referring to the drawing figure 10 the compact page and notebook holder comprises a back plate 1, and a lower lip 2, for holding papers, notebooks, or other matter, and an attachment edge3 for connection to the machine being used.

The copyholder lip 2 is unfolded and the attachment edge 3 is also unfolded. The copyholder will be attached to the machine in use by means of "tongues" 7 on the attachment edge and "grooves" 9 designed into the shell of the machine by the manufacturer.

Claims

1 A compact page and notebook holder-cum-copyholder comprising a body in the form of a flat surface large enough to support a page, means for releasably securing the body to the machine being used, and means for securing or holding paper, notebooks, or other items in view.

2 A compact page and notebook holder-cum-copyholder as claimed in Claim 1 wherein the body, lower support and attachment edge are constructed from one rigid piece.

3 A compact page and notebook holder-cum-copyholder as claimed in Claim 1 where the body is designed with hinges on its lower and left edges to allow the support lip and the attachment edge to fold into a compact unit when not in use.

4 A compact page and notebook holder-cum-copyholder as claimed in Claim 1, Claim 2, or Claim 3, wherein the means of attachment is positionable segments of hook and loop material.

5 A compact page and notebook holder-cum-copyholder as claimed in Claim 1, Claim 2, or Claim 3, wherein the means of attachment is two sets of positionable "tongue and groove" slotting.

6 A compact page and notebook holder-cum-copyholder as claimed in Claim 1, Claim 2, or Claim 3, wherein the means of attachment consists of grooves integrated into the body by the manufacturer of the machine in use and tongue units placed on the attachment edge of the copyholder body.

7 A compact page and notebook holder-cum-copyholder substantially as described herein with reference to figures 1 through 10 of the accompanying drawing.
