Description

2 2 183) 7 5 - 1 1 APPARATUS FOR CUTTING FLOOR AND WALL FACING ELEMENTS
The Present invention relates to an apparatus for cutting, by the parting Process, complementary parts of bricks, tiles., slabs and similar floor and wall facing elements..
Known apparatus of this type is restricted to the cutting of exclusivelv rectangular shapes.
The apparatus described in the present specification is designed and equipped in such a way that it can cut by the parting process, complementary parts of bricks, tiles, slabs and similar floor and wall facing elements of any polygonal shape, even irregular and mixtillinear.
Moreover., the apparatus is of particularly simple structure, easy to use and., above all., of relatively low cost.
In particular the said apparatus is of the type essentially comprising a base with two uprights movably and vertically supporting a crosspiece supporting and guiding along it a pre-cutting device for the parting of the said flooring and facing material, placed on a vertically movable platform mounted by the side of the said crosspiece vertically movable between oscillating locating devices with a compensator, which are supported by the said crosspiece, and reaction means provided by the said base, and means for manually actuating the said movable supporting and guiding crosspiece for the parting of the said material secured on the said platform movable between the said oscillating compensator-type locating devices and the said reaction means provided by the base, the said apparatus being characterised by the fact that the said vertically movable platform is supported so that it can be rotated and secured 2 in position around a vertical axis situated in the plane of action of the aforementioned unit for pre-cutting by the partinq process and by the fact that it comprises a detachable millimetrically graduated rod which can be associated with the aforementioned horizontally and vertically movable platform facing opposite the said platform in respect of the said plane of action of the said pre-cutting unit, and slidably mounted interchangeably on the said millimetrically graduated rod, calibrator means being provided with a vernier scale for determining the desired coplanar dimensions of the aforementioned complementary part to be obtained.
In the accompanying drawings, by way of example only:- Fig. 1 shows apparatus according to a first embodiment of the invention, illustrated in perspective with certain parts in section and others removed in order to show other components still more clearly, Fiq. 2 illustrates.. again in perspective, an apparatus according to a second embodiment of the invention, Figs. 3, 4 and 5 illustrate, again in perspective.. respective accessory devices for the apparatus shown in the preceding Figs. 1 and 2.
With reference to Figs. 1 and 2, in- which the same reference numbers denote like components, the illustrated apparatus is designed to cut, by the parting process, complementary parts of floor and wall facing material, such as bricks, tiles, slabs and the like. The apparatus consists of an elongate base 1, with two uprights 2 and 3 supporting, in a vertical movable manner, a crosspiece 4.
The crosspiece 4 supports and guides a pre-cutting or fe T 3 scoring device 5-tor cutting, by the parting process, the floor and wail facing material, according to complementary parts of the desired coplanar shape and dimensions. The crosspiece 4 is supported at one end by the upright 2 so that it can be regulated to the required height above the base 1 by a known screw-operated adjusting device 6 with an operating knob 6a. The other end of the crosspiece 4, however, is retained within the upright 3 against an opposing spring 7 by a manual control lever 8a with a cam 8. The lever is pivoted at the point marked 9 on the upright 3 in such a way that the crosspiece 4 can be regulated in the vertical direction in the manner of a "cutter". The crosspiece 4 consists of two coupled parallel strips 4a and 4b, facing each other in such a way as to define a slit 4c within which the aforementioned precutting or scoring tool 5 is slidably accommodated. The tool 5 is of conventional design with a suitable cutting element 5a of a known type and an operating handle 5b. It is also fitted laterally with a first pair of upper sliding elements 5c for engaging the upper edges or sides of the strips 4a and 4b, and underneath with a second pair of lower stop elements 5d serving to prevent inadvertent removal of the tool 5 from the longitudinal slit 4c.
With this structure is associated a platform 10 having a vertical pin 11 projecting downwards from one side thereof. The axis of pin 11 lies in the cutting plane of the tool 5 so that the platform is situated to one side of the crosspiece 4 and at the level required to ensure that it will be operative to support the element being cut between a locating device 12 pivotally mounted on the crosspiece 4 and two reaction elements extending longitudinally and at a distance from the base 1. The pin 11 projects downwardly through a hole 15 formed in the base 1 and is received in a cylindrical cup la where it encounters an 4 opposing spring 16 at the base of the cup la. The Platform' 10 terminates in a gonlometer element 17 curved in the transverse direction and substantially astride the crosspiece 4. The qoniometer is subject to the action of a clip device 18 supported by the base 1 s.o that the platform 10 can be locked in the required orientation about the pin 11.
The devices shown in Figs. 4 and 5 each comprise a 10 millimetrically graduated rod 19 which can be releasably attached to the Platform 10 by inserting the rod in an aperture 20 (see Pigs. 1 and 2) in the pin 11 so that the rod can extend., with a travel limit, underneath the platform 10.
This millimetric rod 19 bears a slider 21 which can be locked in the desired position by a securing lever 22 and is fitted either with a rectilinear calibrator element 23, as shown in Fig. 3, or with a square 24, as shown in Fig.
4., to determine the desired coplanar dimensions for the complementary parts to be produced.
Fig. 5. however, shows a goniometric. device 25 fitted with a millimetric rod 19a and with clip devices 18a and 18b, of the same type as the device 18, and serving to determine the dimensions of the complementary parts to be obtain.
The second embodiment shown in Fig. 2, differs from that of Fig. 1 inasmuch as the locating element 12 supported by the crosspiece 4 so as to oscillate in the manner of a compensator around the Din 13, is replaced by A device with two fluidodynamic cylinders 26 with a compensating action, a traverse 28 being connected to the free end of the piston rods of the respective pistons.
11 9 1 In use, a tile is placed on the platform 10 such that it iprojects beneath the crosspiece 4. The platform 10 is then rotated to bring the tile to the required angular position and the tile is accurately positioned by the calibrator elements 23, 24 or 25. The lever 8a is then actuated to ensure that the tile is firmly retained between the locating element 12 (Fig. 1) or bar 28 (Fig. 2) and the platform 10 before drawing the cutter 5 along the crosspiece to score the tile. The lever 8a is then released, and the tile removed. The tile is subsequently parted along the score line by applying pressure on each side of the score line. The oscillation of the locater element 12, or the fluidodynamic cylinders 26, the pivoted mounting of the platform 10, and the ancillary calibrating devices 23, 24 or 25 ensure that tiles or bricks having a wide range of shapes and sizes can be accommodated by the apparatus.
