Circulating fluids through materials.-Apparatus for impregnating stamp-inking pads and the like with ink or colour by applying positive or negative pressure is provided with a pad-supporting frame, a reservoir frame and means for clamping the frames one over the other, each frame having an open centre so that the pad is clamped along its margins leaving the open centre to be filled with ink. The pad 3 or material to be impregnated is placed on a grid 4 in a base plate 1 and clamped in position by a. hinged frame 12 having a recess 15 in the back. Ink is poured into this recess and suction is applied from the passage 5 to the bottom of the grid 4 so that the ink is sucked into the pad. The suction should be stopped before the ink is drawn right through the pad. The frame 12 is securely held on the pad by hand levers 16, 17 having inclined cam surfaces 20, 21 which ride up over corresponding inclines on the sides of the frame. Upstanding guide members 6, 7, 8 locate the sides of the pad and fit into recesses 9, 10, 11 in the hinged frame 12. The hinge bearings of the frame 12 are oval shaped or elongated to allow the frame to move vertically while being clamped down. Apparatus for treating a number of pads may be interconnected to a single suction system. When positive pressure is used the ink will be poured into the reservoir frame and the nozzle of a pressure device will then be arranged over the frame, either with or without a suction device underneath, or ink may be led by a conduit to the underside of the pad and pressure applied to the underside, with or without a suction device on top. The pad may be formed of two layers of felt with a sheet of blotting paper between.
