Ratchet braces.-Relates to ratchet braces of the type comprising a tool socket 4, a disc or wheel 1 fixed to the socket and provided with a plain surface or with non-ratchet teeth, a pair of cheeks 3 rotatable on the socket and a handle 9 pivoted between the cheeks and adapted, by means of a projection 11, to engage the disc when moved in one direction, to release itself automatically therefrom and to abut against one of a pair of stops 12 on the cheeks when moved in the reverse direction, and consists in modified details to facilitate manufacture and assembly. In one form, the stops 12 consist of pins which connect the cheeks 3 together, the tool being converted into the opposite hand by inverting the handle with respect to the cheeks 3. In another form, the handle 9 has two projections 11, one at each side, the pins 12 being replaced by grub screws which are adjusted one to form a stop and the other to be out of action according to which projection is in use. The cheeks may also be formed by a U-shaped plate 17, Figs. 6 and 7, provided with a hole 18 loosely receiving the handle. 9. The disc 1 may be screwed to the socket and the usual post 5, or may be integral therewith.
