Abstract

Electricity, supplying by meter; price-changing mechanism. - A device on prepayment meters for charging at different rates per unit according to the time of day at which current is taken comprises two counting trains 5, 6 for charging at a high and low rate respectively, one or other being connected to a meter spindle 1 through a rocking shaft 2 actuated by a magnetic relay 23 controlled by a contact clock. When the relay is energized the counter 5 through pinions 3, 4 on the shaft 2 drives a spindle 7 which, through a counter shaft 13 rotates a sun wheel 14 of a differential gear 14, 15, 16 the other sun wheel 16 being in gear with a counter 17 which shows the total number of coins inserted and is connected to the coin drum by a flexible shaft 20. When at a certain time the relay is de-energized, its armature 22 through a rod 21 rocks the shaft 2 so that the pinion 3 is in gear with the counter 6. The pinion 4 through wheels 9, 11 rotates a shaft 10 connected to the shaft 7 by gears 12, thereby rotating the sun wheel 14 and returning the planet wheel 15 at a slower rate. The spindle 18 which carries the planet wheel, has a pointer 19 for indicating the amount of electricity prepaid but unconsumed.
