Abstract

Baffles for water-tube steam-boilers are con- - structed by spacing parallel tile walls 11, 12 apart by strips 13 inserted diagonally between the tubes 10, withdrawing the strips 13 gradually 'so as to provide a free flow from top to bottom. and filling in the space so formed with hardening plastic material 20. End and bottom boards 17. 18, one of the former of which is slotted at 18<a> to allow withdrawal of the strips 13, are provided to form a mould, these boards being removed when the material 20 has set and the permanent outer walls and bridge wall 14 erected. The bridge wall 14 may be built first in which case the board 18 is omitted. The tile wall 12 may be dispensed with and the plastic material poured between the wall 11 and the iron flameplate 15 or temporary mould members may be used instead of the walls 11, 12 and removed when the material 20 has set. The plastic material may be a mixture of finely ground firebrick, asbestos fibre, Portland cement and fireclay.
