Abstract

The game involves players moving pieces according to throw of a dice on helical path of travel, with areas 3 marked with numerical values, from 'Start Week' to 'End Week' and earning counters to determine position on Top Ten Chart 13 according to numerical values. Each player is allotted cylinders (7, Figure. 3) marked with name of 'pop' group and the counters earned are inserted in cylinder. Money is earned according to chart position. Other areas 4 on path of travel are marked "Pic a Disc'- and cards are provided with instructions (Figure. 2). <IMAGE>

Description

BOARD GAME The invention relates to apparatus for playing a game between two or more persons..
The invention provides apparatus for playing a game which is divided into a series of smaller areas adjacent to one another to define a path of travel, at least some of said smaller areas being arranged to have different numerical values, a number of pieces distinguishable one from another for movement along the path of travel, and a plurality of counters.
In any one round of the game, the pieces allotted to the players (and each player may be allotted at least one of the pieces) are moved, in turn, along the path of travel on the playing area from one smaller area to another, the area to which each of the pieces is moved being determined by, for example, throwing a dice. A number of counters dependent on the numerical value of the smaller area (if the smaller area has a numerical value) to which the piece is moved is earned by the player who owns the piece.
Each of the players is allotted a different name of a well known team or group of people, for example, a "pop" group and the player allots the " pop" group a number of the counters that are earned by his piece or pieces. Each player may be allotted two or more such names and he may then select the numbers of the counters earned by his piece(s) that are o be allotted to each of his names.
Preferably, when any one of the pieces has been moved over the entire path of travel, a round of the game is finished.
At the end of any one round, the winner is the player who has been allotted the name having the greatest number of counters and, preferably, scoring means are provided to list the names in order of the number of counters each has been allotted.
Advantageously, the names earn as reward, preferably, an amount of ficticious money, the amount awarded to each name depending upon its placing in the list. Thus, for example, the name at the top of the list earns the largest reward, the second name on the list earns the second largest reward and so On.
Several rounds of the game are played at any one time and the winner of the entire game is the player who earns the biggest rewards.
Some of the smaller areas of the path of travel are such that when one of the pieces is moved to one of them, a forfeit must be performed, or a reward is gained, by the player who owns the piece.
This forfeit may be such that the player misses a turn at moving this particular piece, or may be such that the player has to pay a certain amount of his ficticious money, into a common fund.
Alternatively, as a reward, the player may, for example, gain an amount of the ficticious money or a number of counters.
A game constructed in accordance with the invention will now be described by way of example for reference to the accompanying drawings, in which: Fig 1 - shows the board or playing area Fig 2 - shows two of the playing faces of a stack of cards Fig 3 - shows a cylinder and counter Fig 4 - shows a name card Referring to the accompanying drawings, a flat, playing area, as shown in Fig 1 is rectangular in shape. The major part of the playing area (1) is marked on one side with a series of smaller areas which define a helical path of traval (2), having at either end other areas marked "Start Week" and "End Week". Some of the smaller areas (3) are marked with a numerical value from 1 to 5, others of the smaller areas (4) are marked "Miss a Turn" and further smaller areas (5) are marked "Pic a Disc". An area (6) is provided to accomodate a stack of cards, two of which are shown in Fig 2.
Cylinders (7), are provided of such dimensions so that each accomodates a number of counters (8) (see Fig 3). The cylinders (7) are made of an opaque material with vertical and horizontal openings (9), and each is marked with a name of a "pop" group (10).
A name card (11), as shown in Fig 4, is provided and marked with a name to correspond with that (10) on each of the cylinders (7).
A smaller part of the playing area (1) is marked with a number of spaces (12) on to which ten of the name cards (11) can be placed one above another (to be called, for example, a "Top Ten Chart" (13)).
Pieces representing discs/tokens (not shown) are provided for movement along the path of travel (2).
Ficticious money is also provided (not shown).
In any one round of the game, each of the players is allotted one of the pieces, at least one of the cylinders (7) and the corresponding name cards (11), and an amount of ficticious money.
The players take it in turns to throw a dice and move their pieces from the smaller area marked "Start Week" to a number of smaller areas along the path of travel (2) depending on the value of the dice thrown. If a player lands on one of the smaller areas (3), he earns a number of counters (8) varying from 1-5 depending on the numerical value shown on the smaller area (3). The player can then select into which of his cylinders (i) he wishes to put the counters (8), the counters (8) being placed inside the cylinders (7), or else if he lands on a smaller area (4) or (5), he will miss a turn or have to pick up one of the cards accomodated on area (6) respectively. The round or "week" finishes when one of the pieces reaches the smaller area marked "End Week".
The counters (8) are then withdrawn from the cylinders (7) and counted. The player having the greatest number of counters (8) for any one "pop" group places the name card (11) corresponding to that "pop" group in the No 1 position (12) on the Top Ten Chart (13).
The name card (11) of the "pop" group having the second greatest number of counters (8) is placed in the No 2 position and so on down to No 10. If two or more "pop" groups have the same number of counters, a dice is thrown between the players concerned to determine the positions of their "pop" groups in the Top Ten Chart (13).
The players with "pop" groups in the Top Ten Chart (13) are entitled to a bonus of a payment in cash and a free issue of counters (8) as shown (14). These counters (8) must be put directly into the cylinders (7) of the appropriate "pop" group featured in the Top Ten Chart (13) so as to give them an advantage for the next round or "week".
Any number of rounds or "weeks" may be played and the winner is the player who has collected the most ficticious money at the declared end of the game.

Claims (7)

1 A game with a playing area which is divided into a series of smaller areas adjacent to one another to define a path of travel, at least some of the said smaller areas being arranged to have different numerical values.
2 A number of pieces distinguishable one from another for movement along the path of travel as claimed in Claim 1.
3 A number of counters dependent on the numerical value of the smaller area asrclaimed in Claim 1 to which the piece as claimed in Claim 2 is moved is earned by the player who owns the piece.
4 Each player is allotted two or more names and may then select the numbers or the counters earned as claimed in Claim 3 that are to be allotted to each name.
5 Cylinders each marked with a name as claimed in Claim 4 are provided of- such dimensions so that a number of counters as claimed in Claim 3 can be accommodated.
6 Another part of the playing area is marked with a number of spaces similar to a chart onto which name cards, corresponding to the same names as claimed in Claim 4, can be placed one above another.
7 At various points during the playing of the game, the counters are withdrawn from the cylinders as claimed in Claim 5 and counted. The player having the greatest number of counters for any one name places the corresponding name card as claimed in Claim 6 in the No 1 position. The name card having the second greatest number of counters is placed in the No 2 position and so on.
