Abstract

An automotive jig features a two piece body tool with a centre hole and a protruding lug (F) on one body section. The two pieces (A,B) being able to be parted and re-joined, the hole providing a clamping action whilst the protruding lug (F) provides location. <IMAGE>

Description

Automotive Jig Tool This invention relates to an automotive jig tool In manufacturing and repair industries jigs are well known for their consistent re-production of any pre set position or relationship, making a routine or complex job either easier or faster to perform, therefore reducing costs and increasing efficiency.
This jig provides two piece body with a centre clamping hole, a lug on one piece of body protruding parallel with the centre hole This invention retains alignment of gearbox to gear relay shafts on many front wheel drive motor vehicles whilst repair work is undertaken on major transmission components.
Features and Operation of which will now be described by way of accompanying drawing.
Fig 1 Illustrates the jig in perspective Fig 2 Illustrates the jig in position clamped on the shaft and located in the slot.
Fig 3 Shows shaft and joint parted with the jig left in position.
Fig 4 Shows shaft being re-aligned to jig.
This jig comprises two main body sections part A & B held together by screws or similar, part B having a protruding lug F in order to use the jig the fastneres are removed, parting the to halves, part B is positioned onto shaft C abutting the coupling D with the protruding lug firmly located within the slot E, part A is now firmly-re-fastened to part B clamping around shaft C, establishing an exact relationship between shaft, coupling & jig.
Shaft C & coupling D can now be parted leaving the jig clamped firmly to shaft C with little fear of misalignment on reassembly.
Procedure is reversed for re-assembly.

Claims (5)

1 A jig comprising of two pieces of main body held together by fixings.
2 A jig as described in claim 1 incorporating fixings allowing- for the main body to be parted and re-joined.
3 A jig as described in claim 1 & 2 incorporating a centre hole allowing body to be parted, positioned around a shaft re joined and secured to shaft.
4 A jig as described in claims 1 2 & 3 providing a protruding lug on one part of main body allowing the main body to be locked into a slot in a coupling on a shaft.
5 A jig as described in claims 1 2 3 & 4 allowing a shaft and coupling to be parted from each other whilst the jig retains their former secured positions.
