Abstract
An electric motor comprises a stator with at least two salient poles (3, 4) on each of which a respective winding is mounted and between which a pole gap is present. Inserted into the pole gap is a ribbed cover member (1), which rests against the pole tips, and whose face 2 closes the pole gap off towards the rotor space and which at at least one end face is formed with channels which carry one or more plug connector terminals (7) by which the winding ends are electrically connectible, and optionally thermal sensor element 13. Projections 12 may be used for tension relief. <IMAGE>
Description
SPECIFICATION
Electric motor
The present invention relates to an electric motor.
According to the present invention there is provided an electric motor comprising a stator with two salient poles each carrying a respective winding, and a cover member inserted into a space between and lying against tip portions of the poles, the cover member being provided at at least one axial end thereof with a plurality of plug connection terminals electrically connected to the ends of the windings.
Preferably, the terminals are inserted into recesses in the cover member, which may also possess projections at said at least one end thereof. The cover member can rest by a lug on the pole packet, i.e. stator lamination packet, of the motor and detent means can be provided at the cover member for retention thereof in the gap between the poles.
Expediently, the terminals are constructed in
U-shape and fastened, self-retaining through spring effect, in recesses of the cover member. One arm of each terminal can be constructed as a plug tongue, while the other arm possesses a stamped-out or bent-out portion, such as a tongue, for the fastening of a winding end portion.
The afore-mentioned projections on the cover member can serve for guidance and/or retention and/or tension relief of the winding wire.
Preferably, the cover member possesses stiffening ribs, which can form recesses in which the terminals as well as other electrical and/or electronic components such as thermal sensors and chokes or the like are plugged and retained.
And embodiment of the present invention will now be more particularly described by way of example with reference to the accompanying drawings, in which:
Figure 1 is a plan view of part of an electric motor embodying the invention, showing a cover member between two salient poles of a stator of the motor;
Figure 2 is a front elevation of the cover member; and
Figure 3 is a partly sectional side elevation of the cover member.
Referring now to the drawings, there is shown in Fig. 1 an electric motor comprising a stator which possesses salient poles 3 and 4 on each of which a winding is mounted. A gap, into which a cover part 1 is plugged, is present between the poles. The cover part 1 on its side facing a rotor has a surface 2 adapted in shape to the rotor curvature, as illustrated in Fig. 1. Fig. 1 shows a plan view from the end face of the stator lamination packet onto the cover part 1. It can be recognised from Fig. 1 that the cover part 1 is plugged in between the tips of the two poles 3 and 4 and by reason of its shape is held by these tips. The cover part 1 projects beyond the length of the lamination packet at least one end face thereof. That side of the cover part 1 which is remote from the rotor space possesses a plurality of stiffening ribs 5, which extend in the direction of the motor axis and preferably reach as far as the lamination packet. Narrower stiffening ribs 6 are arranged transversely thereto, but close off the channels formed by the ribs 5 to a small part so that it remains possible to feed, for example, conductors through the channels.
The arrangement of the stiffening ribs is evident particularly from Fig. 2. The channels formed by the stiffening ribs are, at one end face of the cover part 1, constructed as receptacles for plug connector terminals 7.
The terminals 7 and the manner in which they are fastened in the cover part 1 are illustrated in Fig. 3, in which the cover part is illustrated in section at its upper end. Each terminal 7 is constructed in U-shape and has a tongue 8, which is pressed out in a bendingstamping process and at the end of which the end of a coil winding can be mounted in electrically conductive manner. The arm 9 of each terminal is constructed as a plug tongue, onto which can be plugged a plug connector which is connected with a flexible wire leading to a component required for operation of the motor.
The cover part 1 at the same end face has a lug 10, which rests on the lamination packet 11 of the stator and thereby serves to limit the depth of insertion of the cover part 1 into the stator packet 11. The position of the terminals 7 is also recognisable from Fig. 1, where they are illustrated from the end face of the motor, and in Fig. 2, where they are illustrated from the outside of the motor. Also provided on the cover part 1 are projections 12, the number and structure of which can be different and which serve for at least temporary fixing of the ends of the motor winding.
The projections 12 can, however, also be utilised in advantageous manner for permanent tension relief. As also shown in Fig. 1, a thermal sensor element 13 can be plugged into one of the channels which are formed by the ribs 5.
In manufacture of such a motor, firstly the coil is wound onto the pole core and the winding ends are thereafter held by a special component of the winding machine. The cover part 1 is subsequently pushed into the stator between the pole tips and finally the winding ends are freed from the winding machine and fixed to the terminals 7 and/or previously at the projections 12. This method entails the advantage that manufacture of the winding inclusive of its terminals takes place fully automatically in one operating step, so that the motor is also connected fully automaticaily by means of a manipulator to the lines leading to the appliance. This manner of the manufacture of the motor is, in advantageous manner, made possible by virtue of the fact that the terminals are arranged directly on the cover part and that the cover part by reason of its shape is securely seated between the pole tips.
The cover member can also be provided with detent means 14 for fastening at the stator lamination packet.
It is no longer necessary to provide end washers at the end faces of the motor, because the tasks of such washers, namely reception of the plug connector terminals and insulation of the stator lamination packet against the winding ends, are achieved by the particular shape of the cover part and accommodation of the terminals therein.
The terminals 7 can be arranged, in or at the cover part, in receptacles specially formed for this purpose and not in communication with the channels formed by the ribs.
