Abstract

At least one groove of screw thread form is machined into the basic body of the opener roll consisting of light metal, for the subsequent reception of at least one steel saw-tooth wire. Then at least the groove is oxidised, next the oxide skin of the basic body including the oxide skin of the groove is removed and the basic body is provided with a coating of heavy metal or ferro-magnetic metal. Thereupon the saw-tooth wire, at least one, is laid into the groove, of screw thread form and made fast in the groove. Finally the opener roll is cleaned and coated in an electrolyte bath with a firmly adhering layer of amorphous material, which then effects a wear protection and/or corrosion protection of the opener roll.

Description

SPECIFICATION Method for improving the surface of an opener roll The invention relates to a method for improving the surface of an opener roll for a spinning machine which works fibre lap opened into single fibres, consisting of a basic body of light metal and a fitting of steel saw-tooth wire.
To improve the result of opening and for the purpose of increasing durability there is cause to improve the surface of the opener roll, that is for example to make the surface more resistant, harder and more corrosionproof. However difficulties arise here because the two materials of which the opener roll consists are quite different. Differences exist for example with regard to the corrosion resistance, the hardness, the thermal conductivity.
Moreover in the electro-chemical series the materials lie quite far apart. This results in further difficulties due to occasional element formation- before, during and after the improvement or coating of the surface. Blisters occur, the protective coating bursts away and becomes rough.
It is also disadvantageous that the range of improvement possibilities or coating possibilities is limited on account of the different materials.
The invention is based upon the problem of avoiding such disadvantages and indicating a reliable method for improving the surface of the opener roll.
According to the invention at least one groove of screw thread form is machined into the basic body for the subsequent reception of at least one saw-tooth wire, then at least the groove is oxidised, next the oxide skin of the basic body is removed and the basic body is provided with a coating of heavy metal or ferro-magnetic metal, whereupon the sawtooth wire, being at least one, is inserted into the groove of screw thread form, being at least one, and is made fast in the groove, whereupon the opener roll is cleaned and coated with a firmly adhering coating of amorphous substance.
With an improvement of the surface produced in such a way the difficulties as described further above do not arise.
In further development of the invention the opener roll is dipped into an electrolyte bath, for the production of the firmly adhering coating of amorphous material, in which bath ions are conducted to the surface of the opener roll and at the points of impact form a wearresistant and/or corrosion-resistant coating.
It has proved valuable to provide the basic body with a metallic layer of copper, bronze or nickel, before the drawing-on of the sawtooth wire. Thereupon the opener roll can be subjected to a pre-treatment known per se for surface coatings of galvanic or chemical nature, without fear of corrosion between basic body and saw-tooth wire.
1. Method for improving the surface of an opener roll for a spinning machine which works fibre lap opened into individual fibres, consisting of a basic body of light metal and a fitting of steel saw-tooth wire, characterised in that at least one groove of screw thread form for the subsequent reception of at least one saw-tooth wire is machined into the basic body, then at least the groove is oxidised, next the oxide skin of the basic body is re loved and the basic body is provided with a coating of heavy metal or fero-magnetic metal, whereupon the saw-tooth wire, at least one, is laid into the groove of screw thread form, at least one, and is made fast in the groove, whereupon the opener roll is cleaned and coated with a firmly adhering layer of amorphous material.
2. Method according to Claim 1, characterised in that the opener roll is dipped, for the production of the firmly adhering layer of amorphous material, into an eiectrolyte bath in which ions are conducted to the surface of the opener roli, which form a wear-resistant and/or corrosion-resistant coating at the points of impact.
3. A method as claimed in Claim 1, substantially as herein before described.
