Abstract

A housing 15 with a lock 17 is provided over the fuel tank 14 to contain the motor-cyclist's helmet 19. The housing 15 is hinged to the frame at 16 and faired into the profile of the tank 14. <IMAGE>

Description

SPECIFICATION Motorcycle The object of the present invention is a motorcycle, wherein by motorcycle a vehicle with two large coplanar wheels is meant, which is destined to the transport of persons, with the driver astride it.
It is known that, as a conseguence of the increasing usage of the helmet, due to safety reasons, by the users of the motorcycles, the problem is more and more felt of positioning the same helmet in a safe way on the vehicle when it is not used.
Actually, some examples of locking of helmets or other objects onto the structure of motorcycles exist; these are generally lock devices using particular removable accessories, which secure the helmet onto the vehicle, by exploiting particular external, more or less congenial, zones of this latter: by means of these devices, undoubtedly the problems of the temporary positioning of the helmet is solved, but they are nevertheless solution which do not offer a particular guarantee against the risk of undue removals: in all of these solutions, the helmet remains in fact well visible, even if locked by means of security systems.
Solutions exist as well, which provide the placing of the helmet in non visible positions, but only for two-wheelers which, thanks to their natural structure, are well fit for that purpose, such as, e.g., the motor-scooters, which, as known, are generally provided with a completely closed body structure.
Instead, the problem of positioning the same helmet in a secure way, and in a nonvisible zone is practically unsolved for motorcycles.
The purpose of the present invention is to offer an industrially valuable solution of the above said problem.
Such purpose is achieved by providing a motorcycle comprising a frame on which a saddle is mounted rearwards, and to which a handlebar is connected frontally, in the zone between the saddle and the handlebar a fuel tank being provided and a housing for the helmet, adjacent to the fuel tank, being formed.
Hereunder, an exemplifying practical embodiment of the present invention is disclosed, which is illustrated in the attached drawing table, the single figure of which shows a motorcycle according to the invention.
The motorcycle shown, indicated with 10, has a known general configuration, and hereunder those parts are disclosed, which are of interest for the purpose of explaining the invention for exemplifying purposes.
The motorcycle 10 comprises a frame 11 which supports, among others, a saddle 12, and to which a handlebar 13 is mounted frontally.
Between the saddle 12 and the handlebar 13 to the frame 11 a fuel tank 14 is fastened.
On the fuel tank 14 a concave, and, more particularly, cupola-shaped, covering element 15 is mounted; it is hinged onto the frame in 16. The element 15 is provided with a keylock 17, to enable the user to lock it to the fuel tank 14.
The wall 18 of the fuel tank 14 surmounted by the element 15, a portion 1 1A of the frame 11 and the same element 15 define a housing for a helmet 19.
For the purpose of inserting the helmet 19, it is enough to lift the element 15, by turning it around 16, as shown by the chain line.
The lock 17 prevents furtive removals of the same helmet.
Inside the element 15, also the feed port and the related closing cap of the fuel tank 14 can be housed; they are generally indicated with 20. In this way, also furtive removals of fuel from tank 14 are prevented.
Thus, on the motorcycle a housing is created, which allows the problem to be solved of the positioning of a helmet on the same motorcycle in a secure way, and in such a way that the helmet is not visible, with obvious aesthetical and security advantages.
The position shown for the housing, as well as its configuration are optimum, in that said housing does not remarkably alter the motorcycle profile either from an aesthetical viewpoint, or from an aerodynamic viewpoint. On the contrary, the profile of the element 15 is harmoniously radiused with the fuel tank 14 and the saddle 12.
The housing shown does not create, among others, any inconveniences or hindrances for the driver, in that it is positioned beneath his arms, or for a possible passenger.
Herein, neither the hinging of the element 15 onto the frame 11, nor the locking of the same element 15 to the fuel tank 14 by means of the lock 17 are disclosed, in that their accomplishment is obvious for those skilled in the art.
The fuel tank wall surmounted by the covering element may be provided with one or more hollows, for partially containing the helmet, as in the example shown, or it can be flat, and, in this case, the helmet is completely contained inside the covering element.
The choice is a solution of compromise between the overall volume of the fuel tank/covering element assembly, and the capacity of the same fuel tank.
The shape of the element 15 and of the fuel tank 14 can be varied according to technical and aesthetical requirements.
The element 15 need not necessarily be hinged onto the motorcycle structure, but it may be connected to it in a whatever way which allows a simple and fast lifting and sinking thereof, for the purpose of extracting and inserting the helmet into/from the housing with equal advantages.
