Abstract

Thioindigoid dyes are obtained by condensing 2 : 3-thionaphthisatin (see Specification 219,276), or its a -anil or a -halogen derivatives, with cyclic compounds containing a reactive methylene group such as indoxyls, thiondoxyls, acenaphthenone, or a -oxyanthracene; some of the products may be halogenated, preferably in a solvent or diluent such as nitrobenzene or sulphuric acid: the dyes dye animal and vegetable fibres from the hydrosulphite vat in tints varying from grey or blue to pure red. According to examples, dyestuffs are obtained from the following pairs of components, condensation being effected in alcohol or acetic acid:-a -(41-dimethylamino) anil or the a -dibromide of 2 : 3-thionaphthisatin and oxythionaphthene; 2 : 3-thionaphthisatin and 6-chlorothioindoxyl carboxylic acid; a -(41-dimethylamino)-anil of 2 : 3-thionaphthisatin and acenaphthenone or 2 : 3-naphthioindoxyl; in each case the products are then brominated.
