Abstract

A bite detector comprises a sensor 8 in the rod 6 for detecting a "bite" and actuating an audible alarm 4 and/or visual alarm 14 through electronic circuitry contained in module 1 attachable to the rod handle. The sensor may comprise an infra-red coupler detecting rotation of a wheel 9 coupled with the line. The detector also permits monitoring of several rods, and also functions when not positioned on the rod handle. <IMAGE>

Description

SPECIFICATION A demountable electronic bite detector module This invention relates to a demountable electronic bite detector module.
Bite detectors are widely used by fishermen which range from simple mechanical indicators to electronic devices, most of these being anchored to a fixed point and the line being used to detect movement.
According to the present invention there is provided a means for a rod to be completely free of any stationary mounted indicators and able to be used without any setting-up of any additional equipment, or used remotely from the rod, if so desired..
A specific embodiment of the invention will now be described by the way of example with reference to the invention Referring to the drawing this shows a demountable master extension 1 which is connected to rod handle 6, this contains a P.C.B.5., battery 7, switch 11, audible device 4, visual indicator 14 and extension socket 3.
An l.C NE555 being used in monostable mode for electronic basis.
With a fixed sensor 8 in rod 6, a detector wheel 10, and housing 9, the sensor being an infra-red reflective coupler which detects line movement through the revolving reflective surfaces 10a. on detector wheel, as line moves.
The electronic pulses produced are fed through wires that run through the rod which are plugged into P.C.B.5. (this being necessary for extension removal) and fed to an audible device 4 an L.E.D.14. A screw cap 2 is provided for battery replacement. To allow additional rods to be monitored, a detector wheel and housing, a sensor and a slave extension are required for each additional rod.
A suitable rod holder 12-top only shown-is provided where the extention is automatically connected when rod is placed in holder via plug 13 Fig. 3 and socket 3. The rod holder being located in recessed sides of extension 15 to prevent laterai movement of rod.
When extension 1 is removed and placed next to user a suitable extension lead plugged into socket 3, between master and slave extensions, will allow additional lines to be monitored.
1. A demountable electronic bite detector module comprises of rod handle module connected to a fixed sensor in rod being designed to opperate independently of any additional equipment.
2. A demountable electronic bite detector module as claimed in claim 1 wherein the extensions can be detached and used remotely with at least one additional monitoring facility.
3. A demountable electronic bite detector module as claimed in claim 1 and claim 2 wherein the extension can be used with suitable rod holder that when lifted, the rod is electronically disconected automatically from the rod holder.
4. A demountable electronic bite detector module as claimed in claim 2 or claim 3 wherein the sensor wheel is attached to the rod with provision for revolving wheel which has reflective surfaces.
5. A demountable electronic bite detector module as claimed in any preceeding claim wherein battery is contained in extension with switch L.E.D., P.C.B. and audible warning device.
6. A demountable electronic bite detector module as claimed in claim 5 wherein the module is located in rod handle at manufacture.
CLAIMS Amendments to the claims have been filed, and have the following effect: New or textually amended claims have been filed as follows: 7. Bite detection apparatus for fishing rods comprising sensor means adapted to be located in a fixed position in a fishing rod handle to sense movement of a fishing line and comprising a movable detector having a reflective surface, and an associated infra-red coupler to produce electronic pulses; and a demountable or built-in monitoring module electrically connectible to said sensor means and having audible or visual indicator means, whereby said apparatus can operate independently of any additional equipment.
8. Apparatus according to claim 7 adapted to be simultaneously connected to additional sensor means.
9. Apparatus according to claim 7 or claim 8 wherein said monitoring module is demountable and adapted to be used remotely from said rod and connected to other sensor means.
10. Apparatus according to any one of the preceding claims wherein said monitoring module comprises a battery to power electronic circuits of said apparatus.
11. Bite detection apparatus substantially as described herein with reference to the accompanying drawings.
