Abstract

A rod mounted electric bite alarm has a bite detector 5 and a control unit 6 both mounted on the rod and connected by power leads wherein the rod is used as one self-contained piece of equipment. The swing arm 7 is set at any angle, the lower it weighs down on the line, the longer distance the fish is allowed to pull the bait, before the alarm is triggered. When triggered the swing arm 7 is held up away from the line giving the angler complete freedom to play the fish or reel in like a normal rod. At this stage the alarm is switched to the off mode. The alarm is switched to on mode after casting out and setting the swing arm 7 in the desired position required for the type of fish bite being encountered. The controls, alarm and battery may be incorporated in handle and socket terminals for plug in bite detector 5 on a purpose built rod.

Description

ROD MOUNTED ElECTRIC BITE ALARM This invention relates to a Rod mounted electric bite alarm.
Various electric bite alarms exist, but all are used in conjunction with separate tackle accessories which are not fixed to the rod.
According to the present invention there is provided a rod mounted electric bite alarm comprising a swing arm clip on bite detector connected by power leads to a clip on power pack alarm control unit situated in front of the rod handle.
A specific embodiment of the invention will now be described by way of example with reference to the accompanying drawings in which:- Figure 1 shows bite detector and power-pack alarm control unit mounted on rod.
Figure 2 shows a purpose made rod with powpr-pack and alarm controls incorporated in rod handle with plug in terminals for connection of swing arm bite detector.
Referring to Fig.1 the bite detector " and the control unit 5 are secured to the rod by, for example clips or similar means (not shown).
In order for the detector 5 to trigger the alarm control unit 5 the swing arm 7 weighs down the line 8 in the open cocked position as shown.The control unit 5 is switched on by push button 12 and is denoted by LEDs 9 or other (not shown).
The System is now armed. When a bite is detected the swing arm 7 is propelled upwards in the direction of the arrow by the line 3 being pulled tight making the electrical connection of the contacts 10 to trigger off the alarm 13. The swing arm 7 is now held in the up position by magnet 11 or other ( not shown) keeping it free from line entanglement. The alarm 13 is now switched off by the push button 12 or other ( not shown) when the rod is seized in order to strike. The plug in electric cormections 14 enable the bite detector 5 and the control unit r to be position according to the individual taste.

Claims (4)

1 A rod mounted Electric Bite Alarm comprising a bite detector and power-pack alarm control unit connected by power leads.
2. A rod mounted bite detector as claimed in Claim 1 wherein the swing arm rests on the line and when activated triggers the alarm.
3. A rod mounted bite detector as claimed in Claim 1 or Claim 2. when activated the swing arm is held up by magnet or other enabling free operation of fishing rod.
4. A rod mounted power-pack alarm control unit as claimed in Claim 1 wherein the alarm is manually controlled by the rod operator.
