Abstract

A tubular cylinder 14 has outside hollow piston rod 12 and within it a second piston 10 connected together by means of screw thread. By removing plug 15 and use of spanner (16, Fig. 3), second piston rod 10 can be screwed in or out of outside piston rod 12 to obtain a desired stroke. <IMAGE>

Description

SPECIFICATION Infinitely adjustable cylinder stroke This invention relates to a Pneumatic or Hydraulic Cylinders.
Pneumatic or Hydraulic Cylinders are well known components which comprise of a tubular cylinder end caps, piston and piston rod and are used to apply power and movement .n various machines and control of components in industry.
However it is often desired to be able to adjust the stroke to match site conditions or movement of equipment such as valves. This has always been an expensive exercise.
According to the present invention there is a second piston rod within the outside piston rod connected to each other by means of screw thread, this enables one rod to be moved within the other, thus positioning anywhere along the cylinder.
A specific embodiment of the invention will now be described by way of example with reference to the accompanying drawings 1/3, 2/3 and 3/3: Sheet 1/3 shows cylinder and piston movement of full stroke without any adjustment.
Sheet 2/3 illustrates second piston rod screwed partly out of outside piston rod reducing total stroke.
Sheet 3/3 shows movement of piston and both piston rods within new stroke restricted by piston and outside piston rod flange.
Referring to sheet 2/3 showing cylinder 14, the plug 15 removed, piston 19 can now be positioned as sheet 3/3, spanner 16 engaged with piston rod 10 and after restricting rotation of piston rod 12 the spanner 16 can be turned clockwise or anti-clockwise to screw in or out piston rod 10 to give desired stroke of outside piston 12, when this is achieved, remove spanner 16 and replace plug 15.
The new stroke of piston rod 12 will be now limited by the movement of piston 19 and the flange of outside piston rod 12.
1. Infinitely adjustable cylinder stroke comprising of second piston rod within the outside piston rod with range, connected to each other by means of screw thread and capable of movement within each other, and being adjusted.
2. Infinitely adjustable cylinder stroke as claimed in Claim 1 wherein outside piston rod is hollow with screw thread.
3. Infinitely adjustable cylinder stroke as claimed in Claim 1 or Claim 2 wherein outside piston rod have flange restricting movement.
4. Infinitely adjustable cylinder stroke as claimed in Claim 1 or Claim 2 wherein second piston rod within outside rod is screw threaded along the length.
5. Infinitely adjustable cylinder stroke as claimed in Claim 1 wherein access is provided by means of a plug to adjust piston rod.
6. Infinitely adjustable cylinder stroke substantially as described herein with reference to sheet 1/3, 2/3, and 3/3 accompanying drawings herewith.
