Inductances.-An impedance bond for use in railway signalling systems has a core 1 consisting of a number of straight rods or strips of Swedish iron or like magnetic material. Two lengths of stranded copper cable 3 are wound side by side in a single layer over the core, which may be first wound with oiled linen. The cable is surrounded only by sufficient insulation to bind the strands together for example, a binding of ordinary insulating tape. 30 turns of 37/12 S. W. G. cable may be used. The bond may be embedded in concrete 4 preferably reinforced, so as to form a rectangular block adapted to fit between the two rails. The bond is secured to the rails or to the sleepers by V-bolts. The ends of the windings are led out through holes 6. One end of each winding is connected to a rail the other ends being connected together and to the corresponding point of the next impedance bond.
