Abstract

A shaving brush consists of the combination of a brush head (2) and a lather dispenser (1) formed for screw- threaded engagement to form a single compact unit in which the dispenser forms the brush handle and lather dispensed therefrom by means of a slidable plunger (6) passed through a passage in the brush head to the bristles which are protected when the brush is not in use by a cylindrical cap (3) which can be screwed onto the brush head and also serves to prevent the escape of lather. The brush head may comprise a central hollow projection which pierces a membrane closing the adjacent end of the dispenser, when the brush head is screwed into position. <IMAGE>

Description

SPECIFICATION Shaving Brush This invention relates to shaving brushes and provides a combination of brush and lather dispenser detachably secured together to form a single compact unit in which the dispenser forms the handle of the brush and lather dispensed therefrom passes directly through the brush head.
The brush head and lather dispenser are preferably formed for screw-threaded engagement with each other and a separate cap is preferably provided for screw-threaded engagement with the brush head in order to protect the bristles and prevent the escape of lather when the brush is not in use.
A preferred form of the invention is shown in the accompanying drawings in which: Figure 1 is an exploded perspective view of the unit; Figure 2 is an exploded sectional view of the unit; and Figure 3 is a sectional view showing the brush head secured to the lather dispenser and the cap removed ready for use.
Referring to the drawings, the unit shown comprises a lather dispenser 1, a brush head 2 and a cap 3. The lather dispenser 1 takes the form of a hollow cylinder, one end of which is closed by a thin membrane and is provided with an external screw thread. A dispensing plunger 6 is slidably mounted in the cylinder and is manually operable from its other end on the lather contained therein.
The brush head 2 is formed at one end with an internal screwthread 7 for engagement over the threaded end of the dispenser 1 and is provided at the same end with a central star-shaped projection which is adapted to pierce the membrane closing the adjacent end of the dispenser when the brush head is screwed into position, in order to permit lather to flow from the dispenser to the bristles through aligned passages 7, 8 in the projection and brush head respectively, when the plunger 6 is in operation. The end of the brush head to which the bristles are attached is formed with an externai screw thread 8 to receive the internally threaded end of the cap 3 which takes the form of a hollow cylinder and serves, when the brush is not in use, to protect the bristles, keep the lather moist and prevent spillage of lather from the brush head.
When the lather in the dispenser 1 has been exhausted, the dispenser can be refilled by returning the plunger 6 to the bottom of the cylinder, where it is prevented from falling out by an internal annular flange, and packing the cylinder from the top with fresh lather. Alternatively the dispenser may be of the disposable type which is thrown away when exhausted and replaced by an inexpensive refill.
The invention provides a compact unit which is more convenient to use than the conventional brush and separate lather container. The unit is especially handy for travel since it can be stowed away in a corner of a suitcase or overnight bag with the cap protecting the bristles and preventing any spillage of lather onto the contents of the bag. The unit is simple in construction, easy to manufacture and enables lather to be packaged in disposable dispensers which can be replaced at no greater cost than conventional lather dispensers.
1. A shaving brush comprising a brush head and a lather dispenser detachably secured together to form a single unit in which the dispenser forms the brush handle and lather dispensed therefrom can pass directly through the brush head to the bristles.
2. A shaving brush according to claim 1,wherein the brush head and lather dispenser are formed for screw-threaded engagement with each other.
3. A shaving brush according to claim 1 or 2, provided with a removable cap formed for screwthreaded engagement with the brush head in order to protect the bristles and prevent the escape of lather when the brush is not in use.
4. A shaving brush according to claim 3, wherein the lather dispenser is a hollow cylinder formed at one end for connection to the brush head and containing a dispensing plunger slidably mounted therein and manually operable from the other end on the lather contained therein.
5. A shaving brush according to claim 4, wherein said one end of the lather dispenser is initially closed by a membrane which is pierced by a hollow projection on the brush head when the brush head and dispenser are secured together, to permit the flow of lather to the bristles.
6. A shaving brush according to claim 5, wherein the interior of said hollow projection communicates with a passage through the brush head to the bristles.
7. A shaving brush according to any one of claims 4 to 6, wherein said cap is a hollow cylinder having the same outside diameter as said dispenser.
8. A shaving brush substantially as hereinbefore described with reference to and as shown in the accompanying drawings.

Referring to the drawings, the unit shown comprises a lather dispenser 1, a brush head 2 and a cap 3. The lather dispenser 1 takes the form of a hollow cylinder, one end of which is closed by a thin membrane and is provided with an external screw thread.
