Abstract
218,452. Hailwood, E. A. May 28, 1923. Blowing.-A mould for forming flanged articles, such as well glasses or bulkhead glasses, is made in two parts which are movable axially in relation to one another in order to squeeze together portions of the blown-up article to form a thickened flange. The mould consists of a lower portion A, Fig. 1, which forms the body G, Fig. 4, of the article, and an upper portion or cap A<1>, having a flange A<2> the sides of which overlap the portion A, thus leaving a space A<4> between the two portions which forms an annular bulge F<2> on an article blown in the mould. Either or both of the mould parts can be moved axially, and when moved towards one another after an article has been blow, the bulge F<2> is compressed between the two parts to form either a flange F<1> or an undercut bulge F<3>. The movement of the mould parts may be made by a suitable mechanism, manually or pedal operated, and the cap A<1> may be made in hinged sections to permit removal of the finished article.
