Abstract

350,827. Making glass bottles. SOC. ANON. D'ETUDES ET DE CONSTRUCTIONS D'APPAREILS MECANIQUES POUR LA VERRERIE, 3, Rue de Castellane, Paris. Sept. 1, 1930, No. 26072. Convention date, April 17. [Class 56.] Relates to a method of forming a "pushed" bottle while it is still in the finishing mould. According to the invention, as soon as blowing is completed, the mould bottom 3, Fig. 4, either is removed or is lowered through a short distance so that the bottom of the bottle sags downwards, as shown in Fig. 5, a puff of air being used if necessary. The central part O<1> of the glass now becomes chilled by contact with the mould bottom while the remainder reheats. The mould bottom is then replaced by a pusher 2, Fig. 6, which is moved upwards in the mould and forms the required cavity in the bottom of the bottle. When the mould bottom is removed immediately after blowing, the pusher is brought beneath the mould to support the sagging glass while it reheats.
