Abstract

218,349. Bever, A. Nov. 13, 1923. Clutches, friction.-In plate clutches of the type in which pressure is applied by moving links of differing lengths through an arc, the pressureapplying plates B, C are slidably secured together as by a key, straight links D, E being connected respectively to these, plates and also, at their junction, to an operating-sleeve by a toggle link F. The intermediate plate A, revoluble on the shaft to which the plate B is secured, is compressed between the plates B, C on raising the connected ends of the links D, E, due to the difference in their versed sines. The link E is preferably adjustably secured to the plate C, a spring being provided to hold the plate against the adjusting-nut. A number of intermediate plates may be used.
