Description
SPECIFICATION
Device for metering components of a liquid composition, in particular paint
The invention relates to a device for metering components of a liquid composition, in particular paint, comprising a number ofmetering valves which are disposed in a circle and can bye shifted towards the centre of the circle, and each of which is connected to a lineforthe infeed ofthe particular component, displacement means for shifting each of the metering valves from the circle to the centre of the circle and back, and a control device disposed in the centre of the circle for operation of a valve positioned in the centre.
Such a device is known. In this known device each metering valve is fitted on one end of a rigid feed line which is suspended in pivoting fashion at a distance from the valve in an annular carrier. The other end of the feed line is connected by means of a flexible feed line to a storage tank for one of the components.
Each valve is linked to a piston/cylinder combination, which is connected atthe otherside to theframe of the carrier, in such a way that by means of the piston/cylinder combination the valve can be moved from the circle formed by the metering valves, rotating about the pivot point of the rigid feed line, to the centre ofthe circle and back. A valve placed in the centre can be operated by a control element for releasing a certain quantity of one of the components.
The known device has a number of disadvantages.
The device is complex and therefore expensive, due to the fact that each metering valve is provided individually with a displacement element in the form of a piston/cylindercombination. Moreover, in the known device there are no facilities for mechanical cleaning ofthe outside ofthe metering valve. Only manual cleaning is possible, either afterthe valves have been made accessible in situ forthis purpose by removing an annular drip collection cover disposed underthevalves, or after each metering valve is swung individually inwardsto a pointabove a central opening in the annular drip collection cover.
The object ofthe invention is first and foremostto produce a metering device with a simple design, which according to a second object ofthe invention can be cleaned mechanically in an efficient and simple manner.
Thefirst-mentioned object is achieved according to the invention by a device of the above-mentioned type which is characterized in that the metering valves are fastened in detachable fashion on a fixed annular holder, and the displacement means consist at least of a holderwhich rotates inside the fixed annular holder about an axis coinciding with the axis ofthe annular holder, on which rotatable holder is disposed a movable displacement element, with which the metering valve can be moved from the annular holderto the centre ofthe annular holder and back.
Through this design, one needs only one displacement element which can be placed by means of the rotatable holder opposite each ofthe metering valves and can be caused to engage therewith. Moreover, the fastening of the metering valves on the annular holder can be made of simple design, without rotating parts.
The rotatable holder preferably comprises an arm which extends radiallyto the vicinity ofthefixed annular holder, oven which arm the displacement element can be moved in the radial direction, so that the design ofthe displacement elements is very simple.
Cleaning elementforthe metering valve is also expediently provided on the rotatable holder. This also meansthat one needs only one cleaning element which can be conveyed in succession along all metering valves, so that it cleans all valves after a particular period, while it is not necessary to dismantle the device partially orto displace the valves.
The cleaning element is preferably movable in the vertical direction relative to the rotatable holder and can be moved againstthe lowersideofametering valve to be cleaned, so that cleaning can be limited to those places where cleaning is necessary.
Here the shape ofthe upper side of the cleaning element is expediently adapted to the shape ofthe lower side of the metering valves.
In a practical embodiment the cleaning element comprises a collection funnel which is placed against the lower side of the metering valves, and in which is disposed at least one upward-directed spray head, each spray head being connected to a line for the infeed of a liquid cleaning agent, together with or without compressed air, and the collection funnel is provided with a discharge opening.
In orderto make it possibleforthe cleaning element to work more or less independently, the cleaning element, viewed in the plane of rotation of the rotatable holder, is placed inthetangential direction at an angle to the displacement element.
The invention will now be explained in greater detail with reference to an embodiment shown in the drawing, in which:
Figure lisa simplified illustration ofthe metering device according to the invention; and
Figure2 is an illustration on an eniarged scale of detail II of Figure 1.
The metering device shown in Figure 1 comprises a frame 1, on which is mounted an annular holder2 fora numberofmetering valves 3. The annular holder 2 is fixed. The metering valves 3 are detachably disposed on the fixed holder 2 and are arranged in a circle. Each metering valve 3 is connected to a flexible line 4forthe infeed ofthe component to be metered. The line consists in this case of two flexible hoses which are connected to a pump, which is not shown.
Disposed within the annular fixed holder 2 is a holder 5 which can rotate relative to the frame 1. The axis of rotation of the rotatable holder 5 coincides with the axis ofthefixed holder 2. The rotatable holder5 is fixed on a hollow driving shaft7which is rotatably mounted in the frame 1 by means of a bearing 8, and which can be driven bya motor9via a transmission 10.
The rotatable holder5 comprises an arm 11 which extends radially to the vicinity of the fixed annular holder 2, and over which is disposed a displacement element 12which is movable in the radial direction.
This displacement element 12 can be placed opposite a metering valve and can grip the metering valve and move itto the centre of the annular holder 2. The displacement element 12 is to this end equipped with a gripping element 13 which can grip the metering valve 3, and which is operated by, for example,a hydraulicorpneumaticcylinderl4.
At the centre of the fixed holder 2 is a control device 16foroperation of a metering valve placed in the centre. This device, which is driven by, for example, a hydraulic or pneumatic cylinder 17 mounted on the frame 1, opens and closes the metering valve for releasing a particular quantity of a component ofthe composition to a tank 18 placed underthe metering valve. This tank 18 is on weighing scales in Figure 1.
The whole system in short works as follows:
When a particular component ofthe composition has to be metered, the displacement element is placed opposite the metering valve3 in question by meansofthe rotatable holder 5. the displacement element 12 grips the metering valve and takes itto the centre ofthe annular holderto belowthe control device 16 and abovethetank 18. The valve isthen opened and closed by the control device, sothata particular quantity of the component is placed in the tank 18; following which the metering valve is returned to its position on the fixed holder 2.
Thereafterthe displacement element 12 can be rotated to the next metering valve for metering ofthe next component.
ltcan be seen from the abovethatthe displacement elements for moving the metering valves from the fixed holderto the centre ofthe holder and back are relatively simple and comprise only one displacement element which can be used forall metering vaives.
During operation ofthedevice, thelowersideof the metering valves must be cleaned regularly,
Mounted on the rotatable holder5forthis purpose, in addition to the displacement element 12, is a cleaning element 20 for cleaning the outside, in particular the lower side of the metering valves 3.
This cleaning element can also be placed opposite each of the metering valves 3 for the cleaning thereof.
The cleaning element shown in Figure 2 on an enlarged scale comprises a collection funnel 21 which is connected to an arm 22. This arm 22 is hingedlyconnected art a hinge point 23 to a second arm 24 of the rotatable hoider 5, which allowsthe arm 22to swing in a vertical plane. Thevertical swing movement can be produced by an operating cylinder 25 also mounted on the arm 24 of the rotatable holder 5, the piston rod of which cylinder is hingedly connectedtothearm 22atthehingepoint26.
The shape of the upper side of the collection funnel is such that in the working position ofthe cleaning element 20 (indicated by solid lines in Figure 2)the collection funnel connects to the lower side of a metering valve 3 to be cleaned.
Disposed in the collection funnel 21 are one or more spray heads which are pointed upwards and in the working position of the cleaning element lie opposite the outflow nozzle(s) 28 of the metering valve 3. The spray heads 27 are connected to a feed line 29forthe infeed of a liquid cleaningagent, for example water, with or without compressed air.
During the cleaning, the cleaning agent is sprayed with force againstthe lower side of the metering valve3,which gives thorough cleaning.
The collection funnel is provided on the lower side with a discharge opening 30 for discharge of soiled cleaning agent. The cleaning agent can also be discharged through a channel 32formed inthe protective cover 31 of the metering device, or through a discharge hose connected to the discharge opening.
The cleaning element 20 can be placed under all metering valves through rotating the rotatable holder5, so that only one cleaning element is needed.
Viewed in the rotation plane ofthe rotatable holder 5, the cleaning element 20 may be disposed in the tangential direction at an angle to the displacement element. In the embodiment shown, this angle is 180", so thatthe cleaning element 20 and the displacement element 12 lie diametrically opposite each other on the rotatable holder 5.
