Abstract

217,993. Crane, T. March 26, 1923. Tobacco pipes.-In a pipe in which the bowl is horizontally divided into part's screwed together as at c and fitted with a perforated metal grate and a hollow bowl plug, the grate comprises a perforated disc e of larger diameter than that of the inside of the bowl, so that it can rest upon the lower bowl part and be clamped or held in position between the two bowl parts, and the plug consists of a hollow metal portion which is shaped to fit the lower bowl part and is formed at t'he bottom with an upstanding tubular outlet g. The grate and the plug may be formed separately or in one part. A liner k resting upon the grate is held in position by a flange d on the upper bowl part, there being an air space between the bowl and the liner and perforations i in the bowl to allow free circulation of air about the liner. The screw-thread upon the lower bowl part may be internal, as shown, or external. The .plug may contain filtering material.
