Abstract

For use in tracking between adjacent wefts and warps in woven fabric and between adjacent wales in knitted fabric a hand-held tracking device comprises a handle (1), an arm (14), means (3 to 13) for mounting the arm (14) on the handle (1) so that the arm (14) can freely tilt and slew relative to the handle (1), and means (16, 17) on the end of the arm (14) remote from the handle (1) for mounting a stylus (18). <IMAGE>

Description

SPECIFICATION Hand-held tracking device This invention relates to a hand-held tracking device for use in tracking between adjacent wefts and warps in woven fabric and between adjacent wales in knitted fabric.
In fine quality woven piece goods customersatisfaction demands that the hems extend parallel to the warp/weft. A particular example of this in Arab Head dresses. In view of this demand it is necessary to trace the path of a warp/weft in a woven fabric.
According to the invention, there is provided a hand held tracking device comprising a handle, and arm, means for mounting the arm on the handle so that the arm can freely tilt and slew relative to the handle, and means on the end of the arm remote from the handle for mounting a stylus.
An embodiment of the invention will now be described, by way of example, with reference to the accompanying drawing, in which: Figure 1 is a plan view of a device according to the invention; and Figure 2 is a side view of the device, with the handle shown in sections.
In the drawing, the device comprises a tubular handle 1 having a lateral extension 2. A sleeve 3 is releasably retained in the handle 1 by means of small screws 4 and a spindle 5 is rotatably mounted in the sleeve 4 by means of bearing balls 6. The spindle 5 has at its upper end an enlarged head 7 rotatably received in a recess 8 in the upper end of the handle 1. The lower end of the spindle 5 is screw threaded at 9 where a nut 10 and a washer 11 are applied. The head 7 includes two upstanding spaced-apart walls 12 between which extends a pivot pin 13 for an arm 14. Thus, by means of the pivot pin 13 and the spindle 5 the arm 14 can freely tilt and slew relative to the handle 1.
The arm 14 can be releasably retained to the extension 2 by means of a spring clip 15 at the free end of the extension 2. At the end of the arm 14 remote from the handle 1 a further arm 16 is attached for angular adjustment relative to the arm 14. The free end of the arm 16 has a mounting 17 for a stylus 18. The stylus 18 may be non-marking for use when it is merely desired to ascertain the start and finish of a given line on a fabric, or marking when it is desired to mark the line.
1. A hand-held tracking device comprising a handle, an arm, means for mounting the arm on the handle so that the arm can freely tilt and slew relative to the handle, and means on the end of the arm remote from the handle for mounting a stylus.
2. A device according to claim 1, wherein the handle has a lateral extension carrying a spring clip for releasably retaining the arm to the extension.
3. A device according to claim 1 or 2, wherein the means on the end of the arm remote from the handle for mounting a stylus comprises a further arm attached for angular adjustment relative to the first mentioned arm.
4. A hand-held tracking device substantially as hereinbefore described with reference to the accompanying drawing.
