Abstract
217,823. Lane, W. H. Oct. 16, 1923. Luggage racks.-A luggage carrier comprising collapsable trellis work or lazy tongs and parallel slidable cross-bars connected therewith, is characterized by the side bars along which the ends of the parallel cross-bars slide, being formed of channel or equivalent cross-section and hingedly connected with attachment side pieces of similar cross-section, these side pieces being adapted for receiving the ends of the parallel cross-bars in the collapsed condition of the carrier. The side bars A, B, A<1>, B<1>, are of channel section, of which A, A<1>, fit into, and are hinged to B<1>, B<1> respectively. A tie bar C rigidly connects the side bars B<1>, B<1>, which are fixed to the vehicle. The trellis work comprises bars C<1>, C<2>, C<3>, sliding in the channel section side. bars, connected by crossed links D<1>, D<1> pivoted at the centre to each other and at each end to the bars C<1>, C<1> one end pivot of each cross link comprising a slot in the link engaging a stud on the bar. A catch E fixed to each side bar engages a hole in the end of the bar C<3> when the carrier is extended, to lock the carrier in the open position and engages a hole near the midlength of the bar to lock the carrier in the closed position.
